blending modes: overlay
I need more information in general about how to use blending modes and haven't located same in the manual or online help. The immediate question is using an overlay layer for dodging and burning. Photoshop has the capability to add a new overlay layer then fill it with neutral light then do the dodging and burning on that layer rather than on a copy of the foundation layer. Does PS Pro have a similar capability?

Re: blending modes: overlay
Yes, the overlays should be exactly the same. But best to try it for yourself and see.
Only difference, PSP doesn't autofill the layer for you. SO make a new raster layer, fill it with the neutral gray yourself (128,128,128) change the blend mode to Overlay and get to work.

Re: blending modes: overlay
Thanks -- shoulda thought of that myself. Works well -- that is much more intuitive to me (a darkroom photographer) than the seperate dodge and burn mode layers.
PSPro is a great piece of software. I've used photoshop since version 2 days but stopped upgrading at CS. When CS stopped running on Windows 7 after the last security update I changed to PSPro (I like it better anyway) but I'm still struggling with the differences.
