How do I create a torus (donut) in PSP X4
How do I create a torus (donut) in PSP X4? Preferably with a gradient so that it looks like a piece of pipe that is wrapped around?

Thank you, but this does not answer my question - How do I do this within PaintShop? I can use Sketchup, etc. but I want to remain within PSP so that all merges are seamless.

creating a 3D graphics is not one of the strong points of PSP, I would recommend that you try using CorelDraw X6 by applying the steps indicated in the video posted by Radim, then just export the 3D graphics to any file format that PSP Supports.
You can download the CorelDraw X6 trial at http://pnoy.me/coreltrials

Re: How do I create a torus (donut) in PSP X4
Abiel, while you are technically correct don't discount PSP's ability to fake 3D. It won't be easy, and you can't use all of the steps provided in the video there but it is possible to do.
Also Inkscape is free so while Abiel is doing his job and recommending Corel products, for something like this it's best to stick with the free. Or at least go less expensive and just as powerful with Xara before trying CorelDraw. But back to PSP.
EDIT: I don't know what I was thinking. The complexity depends on how good of a Torus you want. Here's a simple one (simple meaning, not even close) using the Bevel and Drop Shadow Layer Styles found in PSP. I also layered some bevel effects on top of it and blurred them.
It's not great but it's something. And only took 15 minutes of playing around.

Re: How do I create a torus (donut) in PSP X4
Levi;
Thanks for the idea. As you can see I was successful in creating a very nice torus and then cropping it in the upper left quadrant creating a 90 degree elbow in a stylized maroon colored pipe which is perfect for what I need. Thanks for this.
For those of you wondering what settings to use I created a circle selection outer wall and then used the circle selection "remove" to make the inner wall. Now you have two selection circles. Fill in with color between the two.
Keeping the selection circles intact I used the following:
Effects >> 3D Effects >> Inner Bevel
Select Bevel: type 2
Calculate the difference in the circles diameters and then multiply by 0.25 (this should get you in the ballpark)
Enter that number in the Width and Depth selections. Smoothness should be 100
All others - just play with them for the effect you want.

Re: How do I create a torus (donut) in PSP X4
If you are interested in another way to accomplish this, here is a quick and dirty way using the vector tools in PSP.
Draw a vector circle with ellipse tool or preset shape tool (Blue stroke, gradient (sky2) fill)
With vector circle selected, switch to Pen tool
Objects>Convert to path (not necessary if you draw with preset shape tool)
Objects>Edit>Select all nodes
Objects>Edit>Duplicate selected no offset
Objects>Transform Selected Nodes>Contract selection (I used 30 on both the X and Y axis)
Objects>Edit>Reverse Contour (you will have donut shape now)
Duplicate vector layer
Select lower vector layer
Switch to pen tool
Objects>Edit>Select all nodes
Objects>Edit>Duplicate & Offset (I used 1 on both the X and Y axis) 5 times (this adds depth to the original circle)
Turn off visibility on background layer
Select top vector layer and merge down
On now merged vector layer, choose Vector Properties – Layer Style
Added bevel, inner glow and drop shadow to taste
Merged all layers and saved JPG
Conal

It is a joke, PSP X5 on image?LeviFiction wrote:That is awesome.
Here's a method using nothing more than a vector circle with a hole in it, a simple gradient set to radial repeated often, and the bevel layer style.
Overlay blend mode over an image for that see through effect.
I also used the Warp Brush to make the area of the image bulge around the "torus."

I wondered who would notice. XD Yes it's just a joke. I made that using X4.
But now that I think about it, it's best not to start a rumor mill. Image removed.
