PSPX4 - Geometric Cylinder Effects do not work

Post by castironcook »

I tried both the horizontal and vertical types - followed all of the (very limited) instructions to no avail.
Cleaned up temp files.
Installed SP2.
Nothing works.

Any ideas?

Does it not work, or does it not work the way you're expecting?

This filter technically attempts to simulate the image being stretched over a cylinder larger than the canvas itself. So it'll stretch the middle, and narrow the edges like they are going around the edge of the cylinder.

It has zero effect.

I tried a new image by creating a vertical bar (maroon) 300 px wide x 1200 tall in the center of a canvas (white) of 600 wide x 1200 tall. I used Preview in Image. I tried all strengths. I tried selecting the bar. I tried it without selecting the bar. No change whatsoever.

These work - or at least they do something. Where do I find documentation on what to expect? Why do I have to guess what they mean and what to do about that?

Is this related to your "How do I create a torus (donut) in PSP X4?" posted?

If yes, then you may want to check my reply on that post.

Abiel;

It is NOT related - please read what I have posted. THIS thread is about an effect that is supplied with PSP X4 that does not seem to be working.

Is anyone else having this issue?
Has anyone solved this issue (without paying for Corel Draw 6)?
If you have solved this issue within PSP X4 HOW did you solve the issue?
What steps did you take?

Thanks in advance.

Not sure what you are seeing but it seems to work as it has in previous versions. I attached an image that shows the effect of cylinder vertical applied to a rectangle selection filled with a gradient against a white background. I applied this 3 different times (at 25%, at 50% and at 75%) and pasted into a new image (attached). If you are not seeing a similar result with this effect, you might have an issue with PSP (which you will probably need help from tech support).

Okay, finally figured it out. You have to start with a gradient, not a solid color. Nothing in the instructions say that though.
Thanks, all.
