VS X5 Performance Increase
Browsed and searched for this topic with no luck.
According to the PDF on X5, there are "amazing" increases in performance due to more processes being able to take advantage of multiple cores. I would very much like to hear first hand from anybody who has made the jump from X2, X3 or X4. With all else being equal (same OS, same hardware), it would be very interesting to hear what the perceived performance increase "feels" like. Benchmark testing would also be awesome if anyone has happened to do any.
Of course, I could always download the trial and try it out myself, which I will probably get around to doing eventually.
Thanks!

I would recommend that you download the trial version, so that you can see for yourself. But if you really want to read reviews about the product, I suggest that you google the search term "VideoStudio Pro X5 Review" it will give you a number of review sites such as PCWorld, Youtube and Cnet.

Re: VS X5 Performance Increase
Personally I do not see any improvement in performance. When I measured the speed difference between X4 and X5 I only gained 10 sec on 10 min rendering time of HD material.

Re: VS X5 Performance Increase
Hi
Out of curiosity I ran a test using the sample video and images to create a project, the duration was only 6 minutes, I used X2, X3, X4 and X5 to render the project to standard Mpeg2 DVD compliant file.
X2 took 7min 20 sec
X3 took 7 min 21 sec
X4 took 7 min 16 sec
Interestingly X5 rendered in 5 min 58sec
I do not have HD files to test but feel they may have improved more than standard definition types,
purely because HD is relatively new and improvements are more likely.
Rather than testing the render times, which is limited by the pc's capability you should be looking at the programs response to editing,
How long does it take to load / insert 173 images to the timeline?
X2 took a ridiculous 4 minutes, X5 only 3 seconds, remarkable.
X4 took 4 seconds
X3 , well i gave up same as X2, a long time.
How long does it take to open a project?
How long does it actually take to play after hitting the play button?
What’s the reaction time when I select "share create disc" to open the burner module?

Lata. If you have the time could you give me full details (Format, etc) on the material you used for your test. I would like to run it with my VS pro X5 on my Gateway 6860 computer (intel i-7) as a comparison with your system.

Re: VS X5 Performance Increase
Hi
You should be able to download the VSP Project file from the link below.
It was created for X2 but will open in later versions, I suggest you keep the original making a copies for X5.
If you repeat a render use a different copy otherwise Smart Render will kick in.
The project contains sample clips from video studio so should open ok, but will require a re-link, your sample files are in a different location using Windows7.
Share Create Video file - Same as Project Settings will render using the same settings.
The project properties are set for Pal Mpeg2.
http://www.4shared.com/file/RrlqWMtu/X2 ... _test.html
(right click and open in new window)
The Insert image time test to load to library, I simply used a batch of images from my pc, I new X5 was faster but quite surprised as to how fast.

Re: VS X5 Performance Increase
I guess saving up to buy this new computer was a wise investment. My old computer was over 10 years old.
The 6 minute test footage took less than 30 seconds. So fast that I didn t really have time to accurately time it.
( OS: windows 7 Home premium 64 bit Cpu: Intel core i7 2600 Ram: 16GB HDD 128GB Solid-State drive (drive0, C) 2TB HDD (data) Video card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 560 Ti 1280 MB. All acceleration turned on.

Re: VS X5 Performance Increase
Hi 3deeguy
Nice to compare............
when I first started video editing there was only the CD option available to create Svcd video.
DVD discs were just not available, showing my age.........
40 minutes per disc, my PC at that time took about 6 hours to renderDv-Avi to Mpeg2.........that's not a typo.....
I don’t use HD at the moment but when i upgrade i suppose i should invest in a flying machine.
The wife uses a Laptop W7 64 bit, dont know the CPU type off hand..I think I will run the test again on that pc, just curious.

Re: VS X5 Performance Increase
Hi lata.
Yup, same here Video CD s were my first movies and it took hours to do. I got a lot of those. I reconverted them using the original video tape.
It would be nice if I could get AVC HD 3D files on USB keys to run on my blue Ray disk USB port or on my 3D TV USB port.

Re: VS X5 Performance Increase
Hi
I don’t use HD as yet never mind HD3D.
But ran a few tests to play the bluray files via USB, I had some issues with the type of extension used for the file.
Cannot remember which gave problems for my player either MTS, MT2S or MPG.
The player just did not recognise all HD types, so maybe its an extension issue?
I know Ken Berry uses USB and a memory stick to play his HD files, not 3D though. He’s your man for info

Re: VS X5 Performance Increase
My Blue Ray player USB port and TV USB ports accept MP4 HD 3D (side by side) but not AVC HD 3D and the file extension for the latter is not listed in the accepted formats in my players manual(my Blue Ray player is the latest available Samsung model:BD E5900).
No information is provided in my TV manual for accepted formats for the TV USB ports. But if you plug the camera into the TV via the provided HDMI cable it will play my 3D video from the camera (I think the camera sends it to the TV as 60i).
