The topic line basically states the issue. I was browsing some folders yesterday, one of which is on an external hard drive. My PSP X3 locked up and I had to use the Task Manager to close it due to "not responding." This has repeated each time I have tried to load the program, including trying the suggestion of pressing "Shift" and trying to launch the program on a reset. There's no error message, it doesn't get that far. The welcome screen loads, shows the program is updating the cache, etc. but then it goes to no response, no error message, just 100% locked up. Have to use the Task Manage every single time to get it to close.
Right before this happened yesterday, I also experienced difficulty copy and pasting one image or selection into another. No paste commands would appear. I tried doing the "clear" selection as posted online, but no real answer on that either.
Please, please let me know what I can do -- short of uninstalling and going through all that crap again. I'd buy the latest version, but since I've had no end of problems with this version I am hesitant to move forward if there are more bugs.
Really, again? The last time I posted about the repeat issues with PSP X3 freezing during photo changes (of which there are a myriad of complaints about via any search engine and no real fixes from Corel as yet), I was told to "Download all the updates," which I did. There's nothing new showing on the update page, but I will go through all of the same downloading and installing again.
Reminds me of the old AOL days when customers were routinely told to uninstall and install the AOL program when all it turned out to be was a glitch on AOL's technical side. Having been a CL for them, I speak from experience.
Off I go to once again download the same updates my system already installed. <sigh> Just please have a real, effective fix for what has now seemed to become the major negative in online feedback for Corel's PSP X3 (and X4 from what I have researched posted here for me to try next. Bugs should have fixes ... Just saying.
Well to be fair Abiel is not aware of what you have done before, at least I don't think he is. So he's naturally going to go through the preliminary fixes. You mentioned that you had tried resetting the workspace. Next is to make sure X3 is completely up to date. If it's completely up to date they can work from there.
Annoying, yes, but understandable.
You mention this happened while using PSPX3's Manager and exploring an external drive. PSP's manager has been nutorious for it's poor functioning. It's getting better but it's still not quite there. Many here and many others still prefer to use an external photo manager to the one built into PSP.
Have you tried deleting PSP's image database? If PSP messes up the database, or is looking for something that the database says should be there it's not going to get very far. It should be in a hidden folder called AppData\local\Corel PaintSHop Pro\ under your user folder. Deleting it forces PSP to start a brand new one.

Very true Levi, and my apologies for snapping. Just been another frustrating round with this program.
I went to the AppDate\local\Corel (does not say Paint Shop Pro) but all there is in the folder is a "thumb" folder. Is that what needs deleted?
Thank you in advance. Just really wanted to relax and avoid some heavy pressure going on in my life right now with photos and graphic design. As John Lennon says though: "Life is what happens while you're busy making other plans."
Will check back for further data on where the image database might be, and thank you again.
P.S. Even did a search in my hard drive for the "ImageDB.db" file, and there does not appear to be one. Interesting, but not sure if Corel continued this file past PSP X.
Haven't seen any more advice or responses here, but wanted to update everyone on what I did so it might help someone else.
So far I have:
1. Downloaded and installed all of the Corel PSP X3 updates as advised. Still would not get past "not responding. Restarted PC but received the same response from PSP X3.
2. Went into the AppData\local\Corel as advised, but found no ImageDB.db, just the "Thumbs" folder. I deleted the folders within the "Thumbs" folder, restarted my PC again, and an ImageDB.db file had been created! Still PSP X3 will not respond.
3. Deleted the ImageDB.db file which had been created (now there's also one labeled "ImageDB.db-journal." Unsure what that is but shows 0 bytes. After deleting the newly created ImageDB.db file, the "journal" one vanished and now my PSP X3 is working again!
WHEW!
Thank you Levi for what eventually became the fix, I will certainly remember it in the event this presents itself again (Certainly hope not!) Thank you also to Abiel for initially responding, but I sure hope Corel gives these techs enough leeway to check back on their previous posts for updates. Don't spread tech help too thin, all programs need them to thrive!
