I've tried everything I can think of to get the audio to playback after capturing from a VHS tape, but can't figure it out. I can hear the audio output from my sound card during capture, but playback has no audio. I noticed in the Video Properties box of the Options menu in Capture that the "audio source" says "pass through to sound card", but the "audio source" box is grayed out and can't be changed. I am using an S-Video cable for the video from the VCR, and L/R audio to a stereo plug into my Line In on the motherboard. I can hear the audio during capture, but not playback.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. BTW, the only means I have at this point is to use Pinnacle Studio to capture, then export as an mpg. file to import into VideoStudio. Pinnacle gives me a choice in audio inputs. Why is VSX4 not allowing that?

I'd go ahead and use whatever works. Video capture is "hit-or-miss" unless you use the software supplied with your capture device (or motherboard).BTW, the only means I have at this point is to use Pinnacle Studio to capture, then export as an mpg.
Windows uses different settings for playback and recording, so in general you are not recording what you are hearing. In some ways, it's similar to the video... You are usually not recording/capturing exactly what you see on your computer's video screen....but the "audio source" box is grayed out and can't be changed....
...and L/R audio to a stereo plug into my Line In on the motherboard. I can hear the audio during capture, but not playback.
What version of Windows are you running? ...You may be able to change the selected input on the Windows recording "mixer".

Re: VSX4 audio present but not played back after capturing V
Running Windows 7; have tried all available settings for playback and record - nothing helps. As I said, Pinnacle Studio's Preferences settings have the availability to change inputs for audio. VSX4's audio input option is grayed out, suggesting that something needs to be done to open up the availability to change inputs. Video and audio capture apparently is not hit-or-miss with Pinnacle, which boggles my mind that VSX4, which is (I assume) a much more in depth and versatile program. Something is wrong. I didn't have this problem with VSX2 at any time.

Is your capture device by any chance a Dazzle? If so, then it was made by Pinnacle and tweaked by them to only work properly with Pinnacle Studio...

Re: VSX4 audio present but not played back after capturing V
I'm not using their Dazzle; I have an S-Video cable from the VCR to my Hauppauge Tuner input. VSX4 recognizes it, as does Pinnacle Studio. My stereo audio cable from the VCR is plugged into the Line-In of my computer. Pinnacle gives me the option to choose the Line-In input; VSX4 does not.
To merely tell me to just use whatever works outside of VSX4 is not an acceptable answer in my opinion. VSX4 should do what Pinnacle, or any other program, will do. VSX2 did it; there is a problem with VSX4, and I want to know how to solve it. My audio options are grayed out for some reason. What is the reason?

Hi
Are you able to access the Sound or Audio properties via the PC's Control Panel.
Then set the Recording option to Line - In
Then try capturing..........
----------------------
Just a thought .... make sure Pinnacle is closed otherwise it may be taking control of the Line - In option.

Yes, I have set the audio recording setting to Line In. Nothing else but VSX4 loaded.

Re: VSX4 audio present but not played back after capturing V
Not sure if Corel still supply a list of compatible products, check to see if your sound card is compatible.
If you don't try to capture video from the s-video source, just the audio, does VS recognise your sound card to enable you to capture audio only?
If so, now try to capure video as well.
If this is now broken again, it could be that Pinnacle is interfering with Corel.
Try uninstalling Pinnacle, make sure you remove it all, it's a terrible app for leaving remanants.
Now try Corel again.
If still failing, now uninstall Corel and reinstall.
It might just be that Pinnacle will work with the hauppage/sound card combo and Corel won't I'm afraid.
After all that I can't think of anything else to try, so if you want an answer, I suggest you contact Corel support to find a solution to the problem.

Just a thought, have you tried plugging the audio to the audio inputs of the Hauppauge Tuner? That's assuming that your Hauppauge has audio inputs as well as S-Video.depljc wrote:...I have an S-Video cable from the VCR to my Hauppauge Tuner input. ... My stereo audio cable from the VCR is plugged into the Line-In of my computer.
