X4 Ult doesn't launch cmdnongraphic.dll error

Post by alanwin »

I installed X4 Ultimate onto a freshly reformatted XP SP3 machine and have severe problems trying to launch it - if I'm lucky it will run until I access (notably) some Help menu items or Check for Updates. Then it crashes with a reference to cmdnongraphic.dll Thereafter it will only run if I reset the workspace to default on start-up. Otherwise it doesn't start at all and the taskbar button briefly appears before vanishing. Even after I applied the Corel SP2 update manually I have the same problem. I can run it on a near identical-spec PC under Windows 7 Pro without a problem. Has anyone else seen this problem or a reference to this dll?

Thanks!

Have you tried updating your DirectX?

If not, you download the latest version using the link for your Windows version.

Thanks for the suggestion. Direct X is up to date (9.0c -- XP), I updated to the latest NVidia driver too but still have the same issue. I de-installed and cleaned up using Revo Uninstaller http://www.revouninstaller.com/ several times. I previously has PSP X so I re-installed and de-installed that cleanly as well. Have tried everything really!

I'm afraid websites like those are designed just to sell a scareware scanning program. I couldn't find any hard-core resources on the web. It's a display-related dll so I tried all sorts of video card driver and monitor settings to no avail. Direct X, .NET 4.x , C++ 2005, 2008 are all installed and up to date too. :(

If you looked further down that page past the advertising there was a step by step procedure starting with :

Thanks for the pointer -- though I reinstalled the program 4 times and ensured everything was totally cleaned out of the registry. Guess I hit a brick wall. Never had any such problem before, going back to Jasc PSP 3 on Win 3.1.

Nah. I'd never dream of downloading any registry fix/ cleaner/ uninstaller tool from an untrusted and suspicious-looking non-authentic source. The web is full of them.

Corel says it's related to display drivers, and the error is almost certainly caused by a conflict with a service or process, but which one...

Hi to all with that error

This error is related to very old computers with AMD Athlon processors. They are missing SSE http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streaming_SIMD_Extensions, when AMD produced these processors. There is no way to get PSPX4 running on these old machines.

This affects 8 years old machines and I would suggest that you buy a new one until October or wait for Windows 8. You can still make a decision what OS you want. :!:

Sorry to disappoint but it's not AMD it's an Intel Pentium4 processor. Furthermore my PCs exceed the System Requirements advertised on the packaging.

XP with the latest service packs (yes SP3)
1.5GHZ (3.2GHz)
1GB RAM (3GB)
1GB of free harddisk space (692GB free)
1024 x 768 display (yes)

I reverted to Paint Shop Pro X instead, which is not what I call progress.

On my near-identical Windows 7 machine, I find that PSP Ult X4 locks up as soon as I access the images on a compact flash card. Tonight I gave up after having to constantly reboot it and I've gone over to my PSP X machine to get some simple graphics done.

All in all, I've never been as disappointed with any program recently as I have been with PSP Ult X4. It promised so much but actually I kind of wish I'd not bothered. If I switch to Windows 8 the whole conspiracy starts again, with dozens of programs that may or may not work so we'll be encouraged to 'upgrade'.
