Re: Corel Video Studio Pro x4 not working
Hi Bimbing
There have been a few users suffering with Video Studio, Unfortunately I do not think anyone found a fix other than re-installing the operating system, to me seems a bit dramatic.
I tried running in safe mode with networking but was unable to run the program.
Corel use a small program called Protexis Licensing service
Google this to find more info.........
This somehow monitors Corels programs and disables them if they have been modified.
At least I think that's what it does.
Simply removing Protexis and the programs just will not run, most of Corels programs are affected however they do give an error to the fact that the program has been modified, please re-install. this is what I saw when running in safe mode. As PSI was not running.
From safe mode, Device Manager does PSI services show as running?
You will see it in Device Manager as PSI Services.exe, maybe PsiServices2.exe
Now I could be completely wrong but to be honest I am running out of ideas as it seems a PC issue rather then editing video, i can cope with that.
My thoughts are that Protexis may be faulty, I do not think there is a way to repair the program other than uninstalling.
So if you remove Protexis then you would have to re-install all Corels programs, well most of them.
This would re-install Protexis.
I have no idea if this is going to work
Obviously if you have a lot of Corel software there will be a bit of re-installing to do?
It could of course be any of the other programs that are not running in safe mode.

Thank you for your detailed explanation. I will check and see if PSI Services.exe is running.
I have uninstalled and re-installed X4 more than 10 times with the same result. I uninstalled X4 with the procedure described in "How to manually uninstall...". Last night I went to the Register and removed all entries related to X4. I found out that there are still about 40 - 50 entries of X4's bitmaps. apparently, the procedure of described in "How to manually..." did not remove these bitmaps entries.
I also removed the SmartSound Software Inc folder as you suggested in one of your post in cleaning up V9 files.
Since VS X2 is working on my but X4 does give problems even in opening it, would upgrading to X5 perhaps be a good idea?
Thank you.

Hello Trevor,
I tried all possible variations about changing PsiClient.dll as described in one of the links about Protexis Licensing service, for example replacing with PSIKeyxxxxx.dll, etc. As you said VS does not respond even with the splash screen....
IAs I wrote in my previous email, I removed anything related to VS X4 and SmartSound Inc in the Register and Windows Explorer. But VS just showed the Workspace with the Error message as shown below. It seems to me that there are so many Samples shown in the Library. My question is, if indeed upon opening VS X4 there are so many Samples shown. (When my X4 was working obviously I did not notice it <you notice things when something goed wrong..!!
Also, I understand that you cannot make a prediction but I ask anyway. Do you think that upgrading to Pro X5 will work? Thanks, Trevor.

Hi
Try running the program in XP Compatibility mode.
From windows explorer right click X4 icon and choose Properties-Compatibility tab
Attachments
I believe the size limitation of attached images is 256Mb
The actual pixel dimensions does not matter.
Use Alt + PrtSc to copy working window to clip board
Try running the program in XP Compatibility mode.

Thank you for the tip to copy a working window to clip board.
Actually, I have tried to run X4 in compatibility mode for XP SP2 and SP3, also in Windows 7, Vista. In XP SP2 or SP3 modes, nothing happened. (no, splash screen). The same in the Vista modes, just the colored splash screen and "loading timer" kept rolling.
I probably need to do a system repair again. The latest system repair disk I have is from June 2011 when X4 was working fine. I may have to format the system drive as well.

Re: Corel Video Studio Pro x4 not working
Hi Bimblimg
I mentioned XP Compatibility as the wife's Laptop will not run X5 correctly without this option.
Mind you I haven't heard of anyone else having this issue.
It does take a while to load the program, try re-naming the en-US folder to "en-US Old"before starting VS in XP mode.
C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro\14.0
---------------------------------------
It would seem to be a conflict some where on the PC, you are not on your own and a search would reveal a few problems, some where the program just wont start, the ultimate fix being to re-install the operating system.
----------------------------------------
Quicktime has been known to cause crash problems
Uninstall QT and try to start VS before reinstalling
Use http://support.apple.com/kb/DL26
--------------------------------------
Adobe Acrobat Reader--I had a strange issue after an update, a while ago now
Uninstall this program
-------------------------------------
Flash Player--a recent update in the last few weeks has been provided by Flash.
No Known issues----Uninstall Flash---
-------------------------------------
Create a new User account with admin rights---try running VS from new account?

Re: Corel Video Studio Pro x4 not working
Hello Trevor, Since this past weekend, I was busy trying to repair X4. Finally, I decided to do a System Repair that included formatting the drive with the OS files using a system image that was made in June 2011 when everything, incl. X4, was working fine. I also uninstalled all "toolbars" through Control Panel. Then I did a clean re-installation of X4. Then I tried to run X4... holding my breath... and it worked. It opened without any errors. It still works after updating with SP 1 and SP2. My original problem of not being able to add text (caption) to video clips was also solved.lata wrote:Hi Bimbing

Uninstall this program.
Then my firewall (Comodo) detected a heuristic trojan threat. It appears that the trojan was attached to Yahoo! Toolbar which I did not install. I spent all day yesterday trying to get rid of this trojan by the name of unyt_bs.exe. Every time it was removed, it came back in another folder with a different name, apparently through its wrap.exe that was also attached to this Yahoo toolbar. At the end I was able to get rid of all of them (fingers crossed...) by deleting every entry in the register.
Trevor, I thank you very much for your time and effort in helping me with suggestions to get X4 running again.

Re: Corel Video Studio Pro x4 not working
Hi
Thanks for the feedback, good news that you finally managed to cure the problem.
Hopefully you will be trouble free. I don’t think Yahoo would be to blame for the Trojan, difficult to say where that came from.
Anyway you are working again, all the best.

Re: Corel Video Studio Pro x4 not working
Hi,
I have trouble opening Corel Video Studio Pro X4. I tried to open it today and this message appeared:
C: \ Users \ user \ AppData \ Local \ Temp \ Vstudio_14.2.0.23_20121223_234007.DMP
then it closes, I did uninstall and reinstall the program but the same thing keeps happening.
I just deleted all the folders and reinstalled Corel. Still have the same problem.
I installed the update VSProX4_SP2, same problem.
I renamed the folder to 14.0_old 14.0, same problem.
previously worked well until today. can anyone help? thank you. I have Windows Vista.

Hi
And welcome to the forums, sorry you are having trouble.
You seem to be able to run video studio but accessing the Corel Guide shows the error.
I searched the Corel Knowledge Base and found this. As it may be an internet issue this info may be relevant.
The error message also seems to be in French, is the program installed in French?

Hope this helps

Hi lata,
I followed your directions and there was a "browser manager" installed on my computer, I deleted it , and I launched Video Studio Pro X4 and it was working.
Thanks for your help and Happy Holidays to everyone.

Hello,
On the FAQ page, Corel say that BrowserManager, Babylonia and another Browser process could cause the pb.
I can - very hopefully for me ! - add one : BitGuard !
Have fun.
