The chromakey function works passably well (I guess) when I'm using it without any effects (I still have issues with transparency) but seems to work not at all when I apply an effect. I've tried applying sketch, rotosketch, colored ink, emboss, etc to the overlay after I've chroma keyed out the green and it basically eliminates the green screen effect. Very annoying.
There are SOOO many issues with this program that are really beginning to make it unusable for me.
-- Transitions applied to overlays (even a simple cross fade) usually affect all clips playing at that time (not just the specified overlay effect) which makes them unusable for overlays.
-- Even with smart proxy turned on, the preview video gets garbled and choppy after a few playings.
-- I could go on...but I'll spare you
It's just a shame because the interface really is more intuitive than any other program I've used (after effects, Premiere, Vegas). I'm going to have to try the new final cut pro and see if it's easy to figure out. The thing is I already know how to use videostudio and learning another program takes so long. I mean I have a real job you know...I can't be spending a million hours on my hobby. I just wish Corel did a major overhaul to address these things. I'd gladly pay 3 or 4 times what they're charging now.
Sorry, I'm done ranting now.

Re: chroma key with effects not working
It may help to know that the VideoStudio chromakey effect is applied after the filters in the filter list have been applied. So if you used Autosketch on the green-screen clip, making it a black and white image, then you no longer have a green screen. You would have to pick black or white to key out. The only way it could work is if the chromakey effect were a filter that you could put in the filter list at the top position, before the other filters are applied. I know of only the NewBlueFX Video Essentials ii package that includes a separate chromakey effect that can be put in the filter list.
Side note: To get the NewBlueFX chromakey to work properly, you have to turn on VideoStudio's Mask effect and pick an all white mask, which is not in the list of masks. You have to create your own mask and then add it using the means they give you.
