What Nik Filters Are In PSPX4

Post by Dani »

The specs for PSPX4 Ultimate states that it includes Nik's Color Efex Pro 3.... 52 filters. According to Nik's web site, there aren't 52 filters in that version... there are 47. The newer version (Color Efex Pro 4) has 55 filters and states that 8 of them are new (which, I assume means they were not in CEP version 3).

I would like to know the actual number of Color Efex Pro 3 filters are included with PaintShop Pro X4 Ultimate... is it 47 or 52? Can anyone provide me with a list of those filters?

TIA

I have just counted mine and, as advertised, there are 52. When you select Plug-Ins, the Nik filters are labelled 'Color Efex 3.0 Complete'.

Okay, thank you, Ken. I appreciate your response. Seems like a pretty good deal then.

The NIK filter supplied for PSP is not their standard filter. It is a one-of-a-kind, unlikely-to-be-updated (without cost) filter specifically for PSP. It is very different than the one you purchase from the NIK website. However, unlike the "standard issue" NIK filter, it DOES work with PSP, so enjoy!!

Here's a screen grab of all of the filters. Some pretty useful stuff there.

Can you elaborate? How does it differ so significantly from the same version via Nik or other source?

I was under the impression that this came as a separate disk in the PSP box. I know that their license is such that you can use their product on two computers. My intention is to install PSPX4 with the Nik filters on my desktop but on my laptop, I already have PS Elements and was hoping I could install the Nik filters right on that (Elements) instead of installing a second photo editing software (PSPX4) on it. Would that be possible do you think?

What about Nik's other filters? I was thinking about getting Viveza. Will that work with PSPX4?

That won't work. They will only work with a Corel version of PSP. I can't even get them to work with my Jasc PSP8. I get this message: "Plugin requires a specific host".

NIK is pretty clear (when you contact them about help) that they support the "other" manufacturer and not PSP. They designed the version of the CEP3 filter you received to work with this edition of PSP. At least that is what they told me when I asked them why my CEP3 wasn't working in PSP... I had the "regular/Adobe" version, not the one designed for PSP. Some of their other filters work with PSP and some don't. But if you contact them for help, they really won't offer you any. If you contact them with questions about the "other program" they are all over it. There are some older posts about this topic. Some people have said that all of their NIK filters work in PSP, but (I think) 3 of mine do. As I use a separate program from PSP to organize and categorize my photos, and the NIK filters work in that, it is okay. It would be nice if I could use them in PSP as that is where I do the heavy editing and prefer it to other programs. A feature request I make every time a new version of PSP comes out is -- make it compatible with PS filters, or at least PSE filters.
