Would like to edit DVD copied from VHS tape to make another

Post by mamalou »

I can't seem to figure out how to import my copied DVD to the Video Studie 9 program. (I'm trying to make another DVD to give to friends and family. An edited version of course.) It said, at one point, something about the formatting wasn't correct. Any ideas?

Thanks for the help,
Mama

P.S. We downloaded a trial copy from Ulead.

Create a new project, go to the timeline, click on the little folder icon in the lower left corner of the screen, and select "Insert DVD / DVD-VR" from the menu.

Thanks, I can get to the DVD to add a file, but it looks like Video Studio doesn't recognize *.VOB files that my dubbing machine produces (Panasonic DVD Recorder DMR-ES30V)

I get the error message:
failed to open DVD
Report ID: 0x800408ff(2303)

All my DVD players run the DVD ok, so it seems to be recorded properly (we used a DVD+R then finalized it). Any suggestions as to how to get it to a recognizable format?

Without using VS9 try copying the VIDEO_TS folder from the DVD to the computer, then use VS9 to import from that folder using the method THoff suggested.

Just tried that, and get the same error (import) message. I even tried to rename the .VOB file to MPG - no help.

From the other posts, it seems our computer is on the low end of the requirements (1.0 Ghz, 384 Mb memory, 20 Gb hard drive) - do you think this may be a (the) problem?

No I don't think low specs are the problem but with those specs everything is going to be painfully slow!
You can now assume that VS is not the problem because windows cannot copy the DVD structure across to the hard drive. The only experience I have had in this situation is due to media incompatablity, the disc is dirty or scratched or there is some part of the disc that has bad data written to it preventing the computer from accessing it fully. I would try to:
a. Clean the disc.
b. Run "emsa disccheck" or Nero "CD DVD drive speed" to check if the disc has bad data.
c. Check to see if the DVD reader/burner in your computer has any firmware upgrades available.
