Re: Corel Acquires Pinnacle
That is really very interesting... and it will be well for us to keep a close eye on what happens in the Video Studio vs. Pinnacle Studio stakes. Avid, however, might reintroduce to the Corel stable a program akin to the now dropped Ulead Media Studio Pro... It will also be interesting to see what happens with the hardware side of Pinnacle -- notably the Dazzle range of capture devices, which were pinned exclusively to Pinnacle Studio... Will Corel continue with these devices, and if so, will they tweak them also to work with VS???

Re: Corel Acquires Pinnacle
I guess right now everyone has questions about this and can only wait to SEE what will happen. Pinnacle Studio and VSP are competing for the same market. Avid Studio and the iPad app are not. The Dazzle I/O's are useful, but for how long? With most camcorders being card based, who needs them?

Re: Corel Acquires Pinnacle
Corel also acquired Roxio a few months ago and now there are 3 products under one roof. I would think that there will be some "filtering" over the next few months. I can't see Corel keeping all 3 product lines going when they are competing with each other.
I would think that the Dazzle capture products are mainly for analog capture. Remember that there are a lot of people that have all those "analog tapes" kicking around and want to transfer them to digital format.

Pinnacle Now Part Of Corel
I have just received news that Pinnacle is now part of Corel. So now it appears that a new forum is required to deal with Pinacle software. I have been using Studio for quite a few months now. Apart from a few drawbacks and bugs which I have managed to find a solution for. The software is quite stable and relativly easy to use.

Re: Corel Acquires Pinnacle
canuck I guess you are right about all the video tape that is still out there. I haven't used tape in years.
For Corel, I guess they are in a sense getting rid of a competitor now. They can do what they want with the Pinnacle Studio line. From a consumer point, competition is good. When there isn't much, there is no need for companies to improve. Corel does need a more "high end" video program and I think that "Avid" Studio could be just that. Pinnacle Studio has to have the easiest interface in the world to work with. It's going to be a tough call on what is going to happen, and right now, Corel has all the "eggs" in the basket. Jan Piros worked on the "NexGen" project for Pinnacle Liquid before he came here. The result of that NexGen project is Avid Studio. I wonder what his thoughts are on this?
The sad part in all is that people will be losing their jobs.

Re: Corel Acquires Pinnacle
May B Studio will become the upscale version of VS, but that will require some work on Corel's part.

Re: Corel Acquires Pinnacle
Sorry to say this after all the years I've used both CorelDraw and Pinnacle (now AVID) - both deserve each other. I have had so many problems with both CorelDraw Suite (I've been using since the very beginning when it came on 3.5 disks until X15) and Pinnacle, also been using since the beginning. My CorelDraw Suite (X5) was working just fine until about a month ago and now has stopped working (because of an error cod 998) even though I have followed instructions to the letter on uninstalling and reinstalling. Pinnicale Studio has been a very difficult program to keep working even though I've upgraded to the Avid Studio v.1.1. I can't begin to tell you the amount of money I've spent on add-ins, or the number of hours fixing problems. Anyway, I keep getting the upgrades hoping to actually find a version that will work. My experience is both Corel and Pinnicale are disappointments, and both with so much promise. Oh well.

Re: Corel Acquires Pinnacle
Not sure how large the amateur video editing pie is, but obviously not big enough for all the competitors.
Pinnacle merged w/Avid a few years ago. Now Avid merges w/Corel. I think we'll see more mergers in the near future. I want competition, but the market isn't big enough for 10 competitors.
Likely scenario:
Corel will release Corel Media Studio ($149-$199 price point), a Corelized version of Avid Media Studio. I've tried it and it looks nothing like VS. It's also NOT a 64-bit program.
I don't see the value in the lower priced Pinnacle products as they compete directly with VS. If they were that popular/profitable for Avid, they woon't have sold them.

Corel Acquires Pinnacle Products from Avid
First, Corel purchased Roxio.

Now, Corel purchases the prestigious Pinnacle software line from Avid.

I hope the employees who have been responsible for developing VideoStudio for all of these years aren't dismissed in order to make room for the immigrants from Pinnacle. Likewise, I hope continued development of VideoStudio isn't passed-by in favor of the Pinnacle Studio family and Avid Studio products. I remember what happed to my cherished PhotoImpact when Corel bought Intervideo/Ulead.
I'm too old to learn a whole new video editor!

Corel buys Pinnacle
I got this email yesterday from Avid. A quick search on the forums shows this may be old news though.
"Dear Valued Customer,
We have some exciting news related to our Pinnacle product line! Corel Corporation has acquired the entire line of Pinnacle products from Avid®, including Avid Studio® and Avid Studio for iPad, Pinnacle Studio®, Dazzle®, and accessories. Corel is looking forward to serving your future video creation needs and would like to contact you directly regarding product updates and special offers."
The whole reason I found VS (Ulead back then) was because I was using Pinnicle Studio and I hated it so much in that it was constantly crashing and the output quality was questionable. That was when a friend suggested the then released VS9 by Ulead and I have never gone back.
Perhaps Pinnicle Studio has improved since then. One can only hope if Corel trys to pull parts of it into VS (if that would even be possible).

Re: Corel buys Pinnacle
I am using Studio at the moment. I have not been impressed with the latest versions (S14 and S15). I went back to Studio 12, which in my opinion has less bugs than these last two versions. Versions 14 and 15 have an Import module which sometimes freezes and you will have to exit. Luckily when you go back the software asks you if you want to continue. So infact you will be able to continue with your project. There are other known bugs which I have discussed with Pinnacle chat support and they have managed to reproduce the bugs. However nothing has been done. One particular bug is with edited menu templates.AussieTX wrote: Perhaps Pinnicle Studio has improved since then. Studio 12 has a capture tag which allows you to use 3rd. party capture hardware. Studio 14 and 15 require Pinnacle hardware for analogue capture.
Also Studio 12 handles edited menu templates much better and allows you to save them. Studio 12 is rarther slower than S14 and S15. BTW They have skipped version 13. Superstition perhaps ?
