I have no problem associating any video file with VS X5. Then when I double-click on the video file, X5 opens and the video file appears on the timeline.
I also have X4 installed and when I associate the video file with the X4 application it continues to open under X5.

Yes, I have Windows XP Professional SP3, and all the Microsoft weekly updates are installed.

Re: Cant "open with" VS Pro X5 Ultimate
lata,
Well, I learn something new every day, too.
For Windows XP, look up this registry key and see which version of vstudio the path is pointing to, if any:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\vstudio.exe\shell\open\command
If you have various versions of VideoStudio installed on Windows XP, and you have associated a file type to always open with VideoStudio, then you can tell which version is going to open by looking at that data for that key.
When I opened that key, X4's path was listed. I manually changed the path from X4's path to X5's path, and when I doubled-clicked on a file with a M2TS file extension (already had told Windows to always open that type of file with VideoStudio), X5 opened instead of X4.
So if a different version of VideoStudio opens than what you expected, then you should be able to fix it by editing the Registry. Warning: You are editing the Registry at your own risk. Your computer could malfunction and damage equipment and require re-installation of the operating system and applications. You have the wrong path name entered if VideoStudio doesn't show up in the "Open With" list, or if you browse to vstudio.exe, but it doesn't show up in that list.
Other applications, such as Audition, where I have 3 versions installed, don't have this problem because the executables were installed with different names. You can't change "vstudio.exe." to something else in other versions in order to get around the problem.

Re: Cant "open with" VS Pro X5 Ultimate
Hi Kingston
Thanks for the registry info, i had a look there but didn’t make much sense to me. this is what i have
C:\PROGRA~1\ULEADS~1\ULEADV~1.0\vstudio.exe "%1"
When I view Windows Explorere the VSP files show as a Corel Video Studio 12.0 Document
I have a few versions installed. The VSP's being associated with VS 12, I know there is an issue with haveing mutiple installations.
Looking at the registry the details seem to indicate Ulead VS 10 which is also installed.
I am quite willing to edit this string to point to X5 but unsure how to precede, I don’t fully understand the ~ and % symbols.
The vstudio.exe is here:-
C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Ultimate X5
As you are running XP pro I assume the registry entry will be the same, what do you see?
