Re: Cant "open with" VS Pro X5 Ultimate
What do you mean you can't open downloaded videos? Do you mean you can't add them to the library or to the timeline or what?

Re: Cant "open with" VS Pro X5 Ultimate
The last instance was when a friend uploaded a video he took to" Pando", where I could download it from. There was no way I could open that video in X5 when I had the choice to" open with" a programme of my choice, I could only use VS11+ to open it and then had to import the video from my hard drive into X5

Re: Cant "open with" VS Pro X5 Ultimate
It was not a question of X5 not being able to open it, it was the fact the X5 was not there as an option to download the video into.

Are you able to open VS X5 via START > ALL COREL VIDEOSTUDIO X5 then import the video manually inside the program?
When I right-click on a video then select OPEN WITH... I also do not have VideoStudio listed, that can be understandable, most video files are the native file format of VideoStudio, if you want to includeVS X5 in the OPEN WITH application list, you may need to associate the video file to VS X5.
To do that all you need to do is to right-click the video then select OPEN WITH > Choose Default Program > BROWSE.. button (lower right-corner of the screen) from there navigate the folder "C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Pro X5" then locate vstudio.exe (the application) then click open.
That should include VideoStudio X5 in the OPEN WITH LIST.

I have gone Start—all progs—Corel X5—import media files—double clicked video file and it went to the VSX5 library.
I then right clicked on the video file on the hard drive—open with—choose prog—browsed to Corel—X5—Vstudio(I could not find any thing with a .exe extension in this Corel box) –then it went back to the “open with” box. That box only has Ulead Video Studio as an option.

Choose the file that is named "vstudio". You evidently have file extensions turned off in the Control Panel - Folder Options.

Re: Cant "open with" VS Pro X5 Ultimate
1 I visited start-all progs-Corel VS X5-import media files, double clicked video file and it went to the library.
2 I went to the control panel-folder options-view tab-show hidden files and folders –and then deselected hide extensions or known file types.
3 I then right clicked on a video file-open with-choose prog
In open with box*-browse-“look in prog files”-double clicked VS X5
“look in X5” and selected vstudio.exe(did not have the .exe before doing step 2)
Clicked open-it went back to original “open with box* that still has no VS X5 option.
What can I do next?

Kenneth,
The only way to make VideoStudio always open with the kind of file you want is to select the "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" option in the "Open With" dialog window, just after you have selected "vstudio.exe."

I did that and it opened up VS11+(not VS X5) with the file in it.

Re: Cant "open with" VS Pro X5 Ultimate
Hi Guys
You cannot associate a Mpeg video file to open Video Studio, or any other type of file.
Post Edited 04-04-2012...Oh yes you can, at least i now know you can, although it does not work on my XP computer...apologies
The open command for Video Studio is associated with the Video Studio Project file, (VSP)
When you edit a Video Audio or Image file in video studio you import the file to the timeline, after running the program.
Do not use windows explorer to open video studio, even associating the VSP file may give you problems, unless you only have one VS program installed.
Run Video Studio from the Start menu or icon on on the desktop.
Then import the files by right clicking the timeline-- choose one of the Import options

Re: Cant "open with" VS Pro X5 Ultimate
Will do that from now on unless I uninstall VS11+.I am just wondering if there is any point in me keeping 11+ installed.I guess there is nothing 11+ can do that X5 cant (is there?)If I do uninstall 11+, I hope I am not going to get problems. But if X5 is not an option now,(in open with) will emoving 11+ alter that ?

Re: Cant "open with" VS Pro X5 Ultimate
Hi Ken
No version of video studio allowed you to associate a video file in order to run the program.
That includes VS 11,
Only VSP files will do this. However having multiple programs installed will complicate things when trying to associate the VSP file, best not to bother.................
You should run VS from either the Start Menu or an icon on the desktop.
Then open projects from the File Menu within VS
To insert the video -- right click the timeline.
Video Studio 11---------- I would leave this installed unless you need the disc space.

Re: Cant "open with" VS Pro X5 Ultimate
I certainly don't agree with you on this lata, at least when it comes to X5.
When I use "Open With" to tell Windows to open VideoStudio with the selected MPEG file as an argument, VideoStudio runs and opens with the MPEG file sitting on the timeline.
When you use "Always Open this program with the selected type of file," you are not telling Windows to open VideoStudio with only MPEG files. What you are doing is telling Windows to always open VideoStudio when you double-click on an MPEG file or select "Open" when you right-click on the file in an Explorer folder. You can still double-click on a VSP file, and VideoStudio will always open with the associated project. Once VideoStudio is open, you can double-click on additional MPEG files in Explorer, and they will be placed in sequence on the timeline.
I don't know if there is a limit to the number of "types" of files that can be associated with an application, but you can certainly associate multiple types of video files to VideoStudio this way.
The files you open this way will not be in the library. If you want them in the library, you will have to drag the clips on the timeline back to a library folder in VideoStudio.

Re: Cant "open with" VS Pro X5 Ultimate
Hi Kingston
Well I am very surprised as I have never been able to do that. When i browse and choose the program file vstudio.exe the link/icon does not show in the list, which I think is what Kenneth described.
I noticed you are using XP same here, so its not an operating system issue.
I do have several versions of Video Studio installed which in itself may cause some conflict.
I am able to associate the VSP files with Video Studio, however VS 12 will launch irrespective of the vstudio.exe version I select, any projects made with later versions give an error, which is to be expected. I cannot change the association to open X5.
But as for Mpeg/Avi files its a no no.............
My Mpegs are associated with VCL Player so double clicking will run the player, Right click and choose properties, then try to modify the association to Video Studio does not work. The association remains as VCL?
As I said it may be because of multiple installations of VS. At least thats all I can think of.........
Very strange......................
