ISO to DVD

Post by fiddystorms »

i created a project, added video clips and sound and burned to an iso file on my c drive. i have to burn 40 copies for a family reunion. I need them to come out as DVD so Aunt Ethel can plug it into her DVD "machine" and watch herself 40 years ago boozing it up.

Questions: Can i burn an image to a DVD and expect it to play on most DVD players? can i use a separate program like IMGburn to do so. i would love to send the file to my father's PC to utilize his superior system to burn through 40 copies.

thanks for the help.

Yes to both questions. And ImgBurn is a good, free choice. Personally, I use Nero or Ashampoo Burning Studio, but the end result is the same.

If you or your father has VideoStudio X5 that has an inbuilt programme for burning .iso to DVD - in X5 click on "Tools >> Burn from Disc Image" - I find that going via .iso file generally gives a more reliable burn that burning straight to disc in the Create Disc module.

Thanks Ken.

Interesting Brian, but neither of us have that program. It has me thinking a little though. It seems contradictory to Kens statement or am I misreading the concept?

If I can just burn the image to DVD using IMGburn, why would I need a program that specifically creates a DVD? Or am I basically doing the same thing either way I go. In other words, does IMGburn and VideoStudio X5 accomplish the same exact ends?

Just adding to what BrianCee suggested - If you do not have VS X5, then you can download that trial via http://pnoy.me/coreltrials

fiddystorms -- there is nothing contradictory in Brian's suggestion. It just depends on whether you have Video Studio X5 or not. Much earlier versions of Video Studio I seem to recall also came with an ISO-burning unit (BurnNow??) but that was dropped for several versions but has now been reinstated in X5.

But if you don't have X5, then I merely thought ImgBurn was indeed a good, free alternative way of doing things.

X5 is a full editing program with a burning module. It can both produce and burn DVDs and other discs. Indeed, its burn module is almost identical to MF7's... -- only it now also has the capacity to burn an ISO to disc.

Thanks again Ken. I am grateful for your help. I kind of thought it was the same, I just needed the clarification and you were clear as crystal.

I don't find anything contradictory.

VS X5 can create an iso file and also burn that iso file to a DVD.
IMGburn though cannot create the iso file from a VS project but can burn the iso file created by VS to a DVD.
