Unwanted Update Screen

Post by Joelle »

I downloaded and installed Service Pack 2 for X4 some time ago.
It created havoc with my highly customized workspace and I reverted to the System Restore point set before installing SP2.
So, no SP2 on my system.

Corel Guide>Settings>Messages, both messages UN-ticked.

Clicked on Check for updates using the Corel Guide and also under Help>Check for updates, to see what happens.
Nothing happens, they just stop running
I then close X4 and (quite a while later, usually when doing something else) a screen appears "An important update is available for PSPX4 Download update now!"
This screen is very annoying, how and where do I get rid of it.
I am happy to rummage in the registry, with some guidance of course :-)

You get rid of it by going to your c:\program data\corel\ folder and finding the messages folder and getting rid of it.

Program Data is a hidden folder so you'll need to turn those on first.

Ah, yes, of course, why didn't I think to look there.
Thanks Levi :-)

Later edit: Aarrgghh, it's come back, but the message folder is empty. :-(

I have downloaded the update, but not installed it. I don't get any nag screens about an update. But I have also unticked show splash screen in General Preferences - Miscellaneous.

I am avoiding installing it til I read all the pros and cons that others have been experiencing.
I have also saved any customised workspaces and made a copy to a flash drive.
Systems available Win7, Win 8.1,Win 10 Version 1607 Build 14393.2007 & version 20H2 Build 19042.867

The splash Screen referred to in Miscellaneous is the start-up screen.
The screen that appears on my computer after I shut down X4 should not be there as I have unticked it in the Corel Guide settings.
I am sure I'll find a way to get rid of it, but haven't worked out how yet :-)
