I use GeoSetter to geotag Canon RAW (CR2) images and have the option of writng the GPS data into the image file or a sidecar file.
The default is to write the data into a sidecar file which has the format 'imagefile.xmp'. This means that asGPS does not see the data and doesn't show a position on its map.
If I write the GPS data into the CR2 file, asGPS works fine provided I haven't already done some editing with AfterShot Pro; if I have, asGPS doesn't see the GPS data in the image file and seems to be overridden by empty fields in the 'imagefile.cr2.xmp' file created by AfterShot Pro.
I have discovered a workaround for this but it is a bit messy: if an image has had GPS data added to it after the creation of an AfterShot pro xmp file, first create a new version from default, then copy its properties (Ctrl-C) and paste then into the original, then delete the new version.
Priority of data for asGPS

Re: Priority of data for asGPS
Hm,
I think "merge external metadata" in ASP (from menu) should merge the data from your xmp files. asGPS should see these values after that. asGPS does only see tags/options ASP is aware of. If it doesn't, please make a small test, write what you have done and provide the AfterShotPro.log file.

Re: Priority of data for asGPS
Thanks Andreas,
Indeed AfterShot Pro's "Merge External Matadata" does merge the data from the xmp files.
Thanks for your help.
