Greetings.
Loving learning about x4 and all it can do.
I have been experimenting with removing backgrounds. I can see it is easy to work with solid block objects like buildings and vehicles and stuff like that.
I want to use it with people when their hair is wind swept. So far it isn't working within the flying hair very well and if there is a small spot that needs the back ground to come through it doesn't work well and also takes out the main foreground as well.
Thanks.
Clif

Re: PSPx4 background removal issues
Yes, the Object Extractor tool and the Background Eraser are excellent tools for pulling an object from the background....well The Object Extractor is decent but still falls short in many ways. But hair is a nuisance no matter what program you use.
You might have to start looking into more advanced techniques. Even Photoshop, with its much improved selection and masking refinement tools, doesn't do hair well on its own.
Another option, if you're willing to spend more money, is to look into a plugin that is more geared to getting rid of the background. The Background Remover plugin that shipped with PSPX2 Ultimate was pretty good and defringed the areas well. But it still wasn't perfect.
With masking, especially if you can use one of the image's channels or the image itself to start the mask you have a better chance of getting the individual hairs and capturing the semi-transparency effect.
Look up methods of of masking. Yes, Photoshop tutorials might be able to be ported to PSP depending on how they work with the masks. I learned some basic techniques from Deke McClelland who does a tone of video tutorials and some books on Photoshop. Even one on masking.

Re: PSPx4 background removal issues
If masking is a big issue, you could check into something like Topaz "Remask" which is pretty good.
Adverts for Corel products when you close PSP don't bother me.

Re: PSPx4 background removal issues
I tried Topaz ReMask latest version, I found, in some cases, I get better results and in some cases worse results then with Object Extractor from PSP X4.

You can use the background eraser from the TOOLS section - http://product.corel.com/help/PhotoPro/ ... areas.htmlclifdavis wrote:Greetings.
