I am using VideoStudio 9 with a Canopus ADVC50 and am capturing analog video from my 8mm camcorder. Some of the tapes display a running time stamp on the screen that is also captured. Is there any way to turn this off either from the camcorder or as part of the capture? Camcorder is a Sony CCD-TR36.
I am using a Dell 8400 3GHz, 1GB, 160MB SATA drive, Win XP SP2
Can I remove the onscreen time stamp

Not easily, because the camcorder has superimposed the date and time on the video it captured.
The easiest thing to do would be to put an overlay over the offending section and cover it with a black patch.
A more elaborate and much more labor and time consuming solution would be to use a program like VirtualDub and the DeLogo filter. This filter will try to reconstruct the pixels covered up by the date and time. I'm not aware of a similar filter for Videostudio.

Does your Sony have a Display or a Data button? I use a Sony DCR-TRV120, and with it I can choose to display data such as the date and time stamp or not. I was working on a project last year for a friend and to find clips that he wanted to use he turned on the data-display and we forgot to turn it off while capturing. However he didn't mind that it was on the video, (got lucky on that one
