VHS to DVD using VS

Post by RICO »

I have VS8, VS11+ and VS PRO X2 installed - have used different versions over the years to convert miniDV footage to projects.

I now intend to make a dent in the many old VHS (PAL) tapes that I'd like to convert on to DVD. Am I able to connect my VCR (via scart-to-3 phono adapter then 3 phono cable to USB cable) directly into my PC ? Can I then use any of the VS versions listed above to capture the footage and edit/render a project to DVD or do I need to purchase other hardware/software to do this ?

Cannot afford Canopus ADVC product but have noticed the EZ CAP (not EASYCAP - I've seen the warnings) product. Do I need something like this or can I just use the cable setup mentioned prior ?

Thanks.

You need other hardware, the more expensive normally the better quality, in ease of use and in conversion to a computer file.
If you have a minidv cam, does this have analogue in? If so, you could use pass through, play the vhs into the cam and directly out via firewire to the pc.

You may want to try this Roxio Video Capture USB - http://www.roxio.com/enc/products/creat ... rview.html

Yes, it's a shameless promotion since Roxio is now part of Corel. :)

Thanks for replies - however, no analogue in on the mini DV cam and ROXIO product seems at least double the price of EZ CAP product.

Anyone have any feedback on EZ CAP ?

EZ Cap is very flaky, some find it owrks brilliantly, others nothing but trouble. If cost is a consideration, try it and see.

I had three EZ Caps and only one worked well-lasted almost two years. I used it with Video Studio 10 plus. I was also wondering if I can capture VHS to DVD with Canopus and any of the versions of Video Studio from 10 plus on. Thanks!
