PROBLEMS after several lengthy automated MS updates

Post by User123 »

I was working fine with VSProX4 until after several lengthy automated MS updates, now the app has developed flaky behaviour as listed below. I want to uninstall and reinstall but want to retain:
1. my favourite transitions
2. my favourite titles
3. Preferences and Project Properties settings
4. Media folders (as displayed in the app)

What files from where do I need to copy and backup to achieve the above?

Flaky Behaviour:
Pictures in the Player Panel show up in small sections but really magnified (probably the actual size of the picture). They didn’t use to do this, every picture was scaled to fit inside the panel.
Player Panel sometimes gets overlapped by timeline panel, when Player Panel is in full screen or adjusted so that its bigger than normal.
When more than 15 Library folders are created the app causes additional newly created folders not to be displayed. I have to delete older folders for the newly created ones to appear.

Hi

There is an option to backup the library.
Settings-Library Manager-Export

This should also backup the Titles and My Favourites transitions, Video Photo and Audio libraries.

Preferences, not sure where this file is located, have never needed to back this up, quite easy to set the preferences again.

Project Properties, these are saved to the VSP project files.

Ok

The workstation contains several panels, by default these are locked together.
You can resize each by dragging the edges, look for a row of dots/dimples

You can separate the panels allowing them to float. Then if you prefer save the layout

If you have done this by mistake either press F7
or go to Settings- Layout settings..........

Library Folders, i have just created 30 library pages/folders, once the list is full the panel displays a scroll bar to view the others.

Thanks for the info on backing up.

I’m pretty sure the automated MS updates made the app act flaky.

I know all about resizing panels and docking them. The flaky behaviour happens when I have resized the Player Panel so that it partially covers the Timeline Panel (so I can get a clearer view). Now, when I click on either of the Clip or Project words, (shown on the Player Panel) the bottom part of the Player Panel disappears behind the Timeline Panel so I can’t use the play, forwards, backwards buttons. Really annoying.

I had no scroll bars on my Library Folders.

Even the way VS starts up has changed it use to go dark after the splash screen, and then reappear all sorted. Now after the splash screen, it goes dark quickly, then reappears in sections, then once fully sorted goes dark then reappears again.

I really like VS. Tried 3 different apps and VS seemed to have shortest learning curve. I got comfortable with it very quickly and it is very intuitive compared to the other leading apps.

Another thing I discovered today was that I can’t alter the sample rate from 8 kHz when I’m creating a custom video. The sound file is from ProTools @ 16 bit and 44.1 kHz. I can change the sound settings to 16 bit stereo, but the rate stubbornly remains at 8 kHz. I don’t know whether this is due to the MS update problem due to the fact until now I’ve always combine the video & audio within ProTools app.

I’m thinking of shelling for another new hdd & OS and keeping that off line and purely for VS and other processing apps, so the MS auto updates won’t be able to f@^$%%k things up for me. I know I can turn off auto updates but want to maintain system security.

Hi

Ok, Press F7 to reset the panels to their default location.
Now resize the preview screen by dragging the small black bar, to the right and below the screen this should re-size without detaching the panels.

Does that help?

But i do see what you mean, when you detach the timelines the preview screen expands down to fill the monitor, as does the library panel.

Yes thanks Lata, that is a workaround for the issue.

Go to start-my computer-C: drive and right click on that.Select properties then click on disc clean up.Then follow prompts,
after it has found all the temp files etc it will ask you to confirm, click ok.All the unecessary temp files will then be deleted,
some of them can sometimes cause conflicts/problems with V.S. .................Ken
