Re: VideoStudio
Hi again, I am back
I was so frustrated, I just put it all away. But, now, with Christmas-time being near, I really want to get the videos of my mother on a DVD. I read the last post by Lata, and the Canon camcorder does not show up under Image Devices. I have tried to connect via a 1394 plug, and also via the connector I talked about earlier (S-Video / Composite to USB Video Capture Cable w/ TWAIN and Mac® Support). So, am I doomed? If it's not recognizing it, is there anything I can do on my end? I really appreciate all the help I've gotten so far, believe it or not, it has been a big help for me! Thanks, Wendy

Re: VideoStudio
You may have done this already, but I didn't see it mentioned.
I had an older Canon camcorder which I used on my old Windows XP computer via FireWire. The only way I could get my computer to recognize and use either of them was to shut my computer completely "Off," plugin the FireWire cable to the computer and into the camcorder (while the camcorder was also "Off"), then boot-up the computer. Once it fully booted, I could then turn on my camcorder and both it and the FireWire were recognized and useable. Like I said, you've probably been doing it this way, but just in case you haven't, I thought I'd mention it.

Hi Wendy
Welcome back.
Old_Friend, good call there, sometimes the way we connect and switch on the camera affects whether the PC recognises it.
I to have an older Canon and if the grey matter serves me right I think it used a Microsoft IEEE driver rather than Texas. I go and find that camera to see what it does.

Re: VideoStudio
Hi Wendy
I have search the internet for your camera ZR45MC and found a manual
http://gdlp01.c-wss.com/gds/7/090000069 ... 5IM-EN.pdf
I assume this is your camera.
It does indicate that the camera can be used as a Digital Analogue converter aka Passthrough
It also shows how to switch the feature on Page 93
However you should first be able to capture from the camera.
Please read the section referring for normal use, (P93) then try capturing a tape.
For Digital Analogue converter aka Passthrough the tape should be removed from the camera.
The DV terminal shows at the front of the camera.
I did find my old Canon MV400, looks pretty similar to your camera, but does work when capturing via firewire.

Re: VideoStudio
How ironic. Wendy and I have the exact same camera; Canon ZR45MC. The only difference is that hers still works. The tape drive mechanism in mine finally stopped working after all these years. Now, it only 'eats' the tapes I put into it! HA HA
Now, I'm totally without a camcorder of any kind. Buying any new, decent replacement is beyond my budget.

Hi
Then you may be able to help, using your camera, no tape required
Connect to the pc via firewire and turn on to Playback
View the Device Managers Imaging Devices to see if your camera is recognised.
If yes view the IEEE 1394 details this is what i see

Re: VideoStudio
lata, I'd love to help, but I have no FireWire at all on my new computer.
The FireWire (Port) I had on my older computer (which no longer works) was built into its Creative Labs SoundBlaster Audio Card, which was a great idea. No manufacturers do that anymore.
My old computer did list the OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller. And, it also listed my Canon camera, but only after I followed the procedure I outlined earlier.

Re: VideoStudio
I have just turned off my computer, and turned it back on and it's booting up. Hopefully, it will recognize it. It's been a long time since I've first posted, I'm not sure if I should be using the straight firewire, or the one from StarTech. I guess I can try both by re-booting. Thank you so much to everyone for their help so far! I'll come back and update my results.

Re: VideoStudio
No luck
I have downloaded the Texas driver, but I cannot figure out how to get my computer to recognize/install it. I'm not that techy, LOL. If I could get that installed, it sounds like my computer might recognize the camera(s). Any help on that? I have tried to point it right to where the download is, but it still won't recognize it.

Re: VideoStudio
... And unfortunately, the Administrators are getting the same error message now and then... It must be a problem with the server in Taiwan, and unfortunately we have no control over that. It will probably be another 6 hours or so before the working week begins there, and they can (hopefully) do something about it....
In the meantime, if you can manage it, access this page, which gives instructions on rolling back the firewire driver: http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 31#p258931

Re: VideoStudio
Ok, so, I still can't seem to get my computer to recognize it after trying all the steps. Here is what comes up when I try to update:
And, here is what my downloaded Texas Instruments looks like:
I know this doesn't really belong in this forum, but it sounds like you might be able to help me

Re: VideoStudio
Wendy, I'm just curious about a few things. And, I haven't seen them mentioned in this topic, although I may have missed it.
-- What Operating System (OS) are you using? Which version of it, etc. as in Windows XP (Home or Professional), Windows 7.
If it's Windows 7, is it the "Professional" version or another? Is it "32-bit" or "64-bit")? If it's 64-bit, there's a possibility that it won't allow the 32-bit drivers which you are trying to install, but I'm only guessing at this. Generally, Windows 7 includes "almost" every driver needed, automatically, unless they're really obscure ones.
-- Have you tried using "Windows Update" and check under its "Hardware" option to see if it recognizes your particular FireWire card, and if its drivers can be updated?
-- How are your "Permissions" set? In other words, are you trying to install hardware drivers while in "Administrator" mode (if you're using a Microsoft Windows OS)?
I wish I could do more to help you than merely guessing. Sorry.

Re: VideoStudio
Hi Wendy
Sorry for the late reply, the forum had some access problems over the weekend and i seened to have missed your post........
From device manager, below the IEEE listing is Imaging Devices, expand this to view the devices, your camera should be listed.
I un-installed my Texas driver leaving only the Via OCHI Compliant one, the camera was no longer recognised
I then right clicked the Device Manager and chose “scan for hardware changes” this automatically installed the Texas driver as my earlier posted image.
Can you try scan for hardware, this option should not really be needed as booting the pc will do the same, so I doubt if this will make difference, but worth a try.

Also, Lata, I have done that (scanned for hardware changes) to no avail

It is a 32 bit
-- Have you tried using "Windows Update" and check under its "Hardware" option to see if it recognizes your particular FireWire card, and if its drivers can be updated?
I believe I just did a windows update, but I can try that again
-- How are your "Permissions" set? In other words, are you trying to install hardware drivers while in "Administrator" mode (if you're using a Microsoft Windows OS)?
Yes, I am in Admin mode
