Re: VideoStudio
It doesn't capture it, I have with the DV off and on, but nothing. Yesterday, my computer did recognize when I plugged in the firewire cable, it showed it found "new hardware". I guess I'm not as close as I thought

Re: VideoStudio
Hi
When you connect the camera via firwire to the pc, switch the camera on and windows should recognise the camera.
View the PC's Device Manager
When you turn on the camera the list should re-fresh with a new entry Imaging Devices
An auto run window may also show, close this window, do not select any options.
Click the + sign adjacent to the Imaging Devices to view the connected devices, your camera should be listed. If Yes
View Video Studio Capture tab--the Source box should indicate your camera. If there are more than one device connected then click the down arrow to select.
You should be able to select the camera in the source box, are you able to do this?
It may be named simply DV Device.

Re: VideoStudio
I did find that website while trying to find a solution to my problem.
No, the camera is not showing up under Imaging Devices. I wonder if something is wrong w/it, but I'm thinking not, only because of what it did yesterday..hum...

Re: VideoStudio
Hi
The camera should show under the Device Manager.
and
The firewire port should be listed under "IEEE 1394 Bus host controller"
Do you see IEEE 1394 .................?????
Do you have another firewire port you can connect to, some cards will have more than one socket.
Disconnect and re-connect the camera to see if you have a bad connection.
If you have another cable try that.

Hi
I also see Texas Instruments OCHI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller
Try updating the driver to see if it gives the Texas option

Re: VideoStudio
It doesn't give me that option for driver downloads on HP's site. Here's another question...I have been asking around about this problem. One person said that my computer might not simply have enough horsepower to stop the jumpiness that shows up when I capture. They suggested getting a DVD recorder and just plugging my analog camcorder into that. Any opinions on that suggestion? I appreciate all the help I've gotten here, but I sometimes feel like I'm beating a dead horse

Re: VideoStudio
Hi
When you capture from Mini-DV via firewire the actual video is transferred to the pc without any further re-coding. Firewire being used as it is a fast transfer. What you have in the camera is what you get DV-Avi.
If you were to choose DVD as the format then this would be re-coded using the PC's resources, and yes older and slower computers may struggle.
Connecting using Pass Through uses the camera as an AV-DV converter, so the camera is doing all the work, the video simply being uploaded for want of a better word.
I think the VIA OCHI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller is the default driver installed by the operating system.
I think you have to update the driver, i know there is a Texas type but think from memory as seeing a Microsoft one.
Until you are able to use the camera to capture a tape you will not be able to use Pass-through.
Go to the device manager, right click the VIA OCHI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller and select update.
When I try it reports as being the latest version.
Post Edited
Go to the Device manager and tell it to Scan For Hardware changes
I ran a quick test, this is what i did.
I un-installed my Texas IEEE driver.
The camera was no longer recognised by the pc.
Tried updating the VIA OCHI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller No go
Right click VIA OCHI choose Scan for Hardware Changes
Device manager refreshed a few times then listed the Texas driver.
Camera works again.

Re: VideoStudio
Ok, thank you. I have looked and looked for the driver online, and I haven't found it yet...just a bunch of popups and such. I did talk with somenoe at Canon and everything with the camera is working. They cannot gurarantee I can use it as a "passthrough", but it should work "dubbing" it from a mini tape to the computer via firewire. I hope it's as easy as finding this driver (which is proving to be not so easy
)

Hi
i am a little confused
You do not need to go on line.....
The device manager is part of the computer, by selecting "Scan for Hardware Changes" may find the correct driver.
Please read the text in blue from my previous post

Re: VideoStudio
I did do that, but it just comes back up with Via OHCI Compliant...no Texas Instruments anywhere.

Re: VideoStudio
A couple of thoughts... First, have a look at my post in a related thread: http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 43#p251543 It's a variant of Trevor's suggestion.
Second, if you are in Europe, I seem to recall that many mini DV camcorders sold there had their DV-in function crippled by the manufacturers to avoid paying a higher tax on them. So that could be another possibility as to why it is not working for you.
You could also try downloading a small freeware program which a lot of us here use, called WinDV. It is exclusively for capture of DV/AVI. You can get it from windv.mourek.cz and if that does not work, then it would seem there is something outside Video Studio preventing the transfer.

Re: VideoStudio
Hi, I will look at that thread. I am not in Europe, I am in Ohio (I guess I should put that in my settings). I actually did download WinDV yesterday, and it doesn't' recognize it either. I've googled it all afternoon, but can't seem to find an answer as to why my computer wouldn't recognize the firewire/. I do appreciate all your help and feedback...

Re: VideoStudio
Hi
Its not that WinDV does not recognise the camera, its your PC that does not recognise the camera.
With all software programs closed, when you connect the camera via firewire, turn on the camera,
device manager should see the camera and list it under Imaging Devices see first image below.
Until you see the camera listed in the device manager no other programs will see it.
You may also see the computers auto run dialogue window, I ignore this and simply close the window.
Turn off the camera........
Now start Video Studio
Go to Capture Tab
Capture Video
After a short delay you will receive an error Either no video capture driver..........
Close the window
Ok switch on camera this is what I see...........
A new device is plugged in..........press OK
The panel refreshes, may take a while, then shows the cameras description.
Notice DV is selected as the source.
This is what you should be seeing.
Is the IEEE firewire socket on a seperate card or part of the motherboard?
