Bibble5 User - do I need to buy AfterShot?

Post by hdave »

I know I am coming late to the party here, but I just discovered tonight that my beloved Bibble is now AfterShot Pro.

I downloaded the 64bit Deb and it installed just fine on my Ubuntu 12.04, but my license key didn't work. How do I get the new key? Do I need to purchase it at the $50 upgrade price?

In general, are folks happy with the new versions? Is this a good thing? Kinda freaked out here...

Yes.

Try it, you have a few days to play.
As AS uses a completely different CM system and all cams have been re-profiled, your images will look differently.
One thing where AS is definitely miles better than B5 is highlight recovery. The pink is gone.

cheers

And that alone is worth the upgrade imho.

Thanks guys. I downloaded it late last night and was playing around with it.

It seems like the GUI is less flaky overall...seems cleaner for some reason....

Just like a lazy consumer, I'll probably suck it up and buy it then... :?

Agreed. The pink (or yellow sometimes) is still there, just not as bad in most cases. There have been some improvements in the UI, but just as many steps backward. IMHO it's really a mixed bag. Like afx said: use the time to play with it and see if it's worth it to you. I managed to catch this change in the early deal days, so went ahead and updated (I'm reluctant to say "upgraded"). Some aspects for me with my typical images got worse & I've looked elsewhere, but am keeping an eye on how things are going. It's basically back to a v1.0 program & hopefully these issues get ironed out.

It seems to depend on the camera. With my cams (Olympus E-620, E-510, E-30), ASP is able to recover the highlights as well as ACR6.7. And I've yet to see a magenta/yellow cast. Which doesn't mean that ASP doesn't have its weaknesses: demosaicing should be improved, and sharpening introduces coloured pixels. Just to name the two issues that are most annoying for me.
