I am trialling X5 to see if it will work for me. I want to edit video for Youtube and some DVD seminars.
I have a Logitech C270 webcam (capable of widescreen 720P) to capture video. However I cannot get X5 to capture the video in widescreen. In fact I cannot get it to select anything higher than 4:3 720x480.
I have selected "Enable Widescreen" in the settings menu.
And from the help of Google found the "Edit" selections of "Project Properties"
- Selecting "Perform non-square pixel rendering", does not change the video capture screen.
- Video settings in the "Compression" tab is grayed out and fixed at MPEG-2
- Display aspect ratio in the "compression" tab does not change the aspect of the video capture set at either 4:3 or 16:9
- Frame size "standard" in the "compression" tab has only 4 options of capture size 352x240, 352x480, 704x480, 720x480.
- Frame size "User-defined" in the "compression" tab is grayed out and unchangable.
If anyone could offer some help here that would be very helpful.

Re: Idiot Q: Widescreen not working?
Hi
Welcome to the forums.
A little difficult in checking the settings as each capture device will create different capture options.
I do not have a C270 webcam.
What capture format are available, if only Mpeg2 then .................
If you can select 720 x 480 x 16:9 that should capture a widescreen video, yes the frame size is 720 x 480 but the pixels are not square, so Non Square Pixel Rendering has to be selected.
If you can select Mpeg4 then you should be able to use 1280 x 720 which would be widescreen.
Have you tried to capture.
If so right click a clip in the timeline and select properties, what are they?

Re: Idiot Q: Widescreen not working?
The captured videos in the timeline are in widescreen. However they are all stretched from the 4:3 ratio they were recorded in.
This wouldn't bother me so much except that the camera works fine in every other program.
I am not really impressed with this software. A final render in a dvd quality is fine, but the original capture and working quality needs to be better. I need to be able to capture in at least 720p to end up with an even slightly viewable pal or ntsc final copy.
I was trialling several other video editors and this morning I ended up purchasing a full commercial license off another company. So sorry, you lost me already.

Hi
I'm sorry but i don’t understand.
In your first post you said
"I have a Logitech C270 webcam (capable of widescreen 720P) to capture video"
Then you say in the last reply ..............
"However they are all stretched from the 4:3 ratio they were recorded in. "
So just what aspect ratio does the camera use to record
and what aspect ratio did you select to capture
You probably wont read this but also sorry to have lost you.........
