VHS to DVD with latest VS editions
Hi. Are the newer versions of Video Studio (VS11 and newer) able to capture, edit and burn to DVD from analog (VHS) sources? I read some reviews that say they can't.
Your help is appreciated. Thanks!

Well, it would obviously depend on what capture device you use. I have successfully captured from VHS using VS 11 through to X4 using a Sony Digital 8 as passthrough. I haven't done it with X5 because I haven't needed to. But I have little doubt that it would work if I tried.

I was going to purchase a Conapus ADVC 110 (which someone recommended). Do you think that would work with say VS11 plus or X2? Thanks!

The Canopus is an excellent device and works with all versions of VS. As you will be aware, it captures via Firewire, so I assume your computer has a firewire port...

Re: VHS to DVD with latest VS editions
I don't think it does Ken-it is an 8 year old computer. Also, I don't have it close to my entertainment center. I have seen firewire to USB adapters or cards but I don't know if they will give good quality results. I'm hoping someone has any info regarding these.

No point getting fantastic canopus product and using firewire to usb convertor. Can you get a pcmcia/express firewire card for your laptop?

Re: VHS to DVD with latest VS editions
I have one of these :- http://www.honestech.com/main/vhs-to-dvd-50-deluxe.asp
Using the software supplied with that I capture excellent quality mpeg - then import that to VideoStudio X2, X4 or X5 and do all my editing.
I see no point in converting analogue to digital - then converting to mpeg to burn a DVD, the digital video can only contain the info that was in the VHS anyrate - converting to DV will not improve it - so I go straight to mpeg.

I'll check to see if I can use the card with my laptop. Thanks to all for your help.
