Re: Using VideoStudio; Recommendations
Although I don't remember during the Install having to select a Language, since all other areas of VS is in English......it would appear the Install if not selected by me ...was defaulted to English. When I view a Title it's text is "Lorem Ipsem Dolor Sit Amet"
I clicked on get More Content......saw Title pack 6......shows Man & Woman ....thought it might be more Title templates...and in English......downloaded this pack (it was free).....and now when I go back and click on "Get More Content" it shows Pack 6 INSTALLED....but I don't see these new Titles......
This is strange....you VS is all in English to include the Templated Title text, my install of VS is all in English except the text in the template Titles......
Tks; found the Menu to untick create menu.......

Re "Lorem Ipsum":
In publishing and graphic design, Lorem ipsum... is placeholder text (filler text) commonly used to demonstrate the graphics elements of a document or visual presentation, such as font, typography, and layout. The lorem ipsum text is typically a section of a Latin text by Cicero with words altered, added and removed that make it nonsensical in meaning and not proper Latin.
If you want more info do a google search on "Lorem Ipsum"

Ah yes - the title texts are in Latin - I thought you were referring to the titles on the menu templates - yes my Titles are in Latin - the text on the menu templates is in English.
Just a placeholder for the text and applied affects - used in all sorts of graphic programmes as canuck has explained.
New downloaded titles and other "more content" do not show until you have closed VideoStudio completely and then re-opened it - new titles should show in the title library pane - they are not specifically marked you just find you had more than you started with. I have just downloaded and installed title pack 6 and it has added 10 new titles to my library pane - after you downloaded did you do the full install which involves about 6 small windows popping up along with about 3 clicks on 'install' buttons. ?
Incidentally you do not have to use the supplied title templates - all of those were made in VideoStudio and you to can start from a blank screen and produce as many similar one as you wish - you can also extensively modify the affects on each supplied title (not just the text) - so if there is one that nearly does what you want start with that and modify the effect.

Hi
Each time you install a title pack the Library will increase by 10.
I think the original "as installed" program has 34 titles in the library.

Re: Using VideoStudio; Recommendations
VS surely does have a lot of cool features....in fact, it is so jammed packed with them I would bet even the most experienced users have yet to find them all......
I still have not found, if it is available, how to determine the Date and Time a particular clip was originally recorded. Now granted, I am using an Imported video....that I imported with Studio14....so I have no clips in VS Library. When I right clicked a Clip in the Timeline\ Properties...there ia a lot of Info displayed, but not the date & time of the Clip. When I edit there are times I need to verify the date and Time within the timeline to be sure I have them in the proper Date\Time order......Is there a way to determine the Date and Time of a Clip in the Timeline?
When I right Click on a clip a menu opens....in that menu there are many sub-menus....but I am curious for now about Fade-in and Fade-out. I took it that if I ticked the end of one clip Fade-Out, and the next clip Fade-in.....that transition would take place...but when I playback the Project.....nothing happens.....it just changes to the new Clip.
As to the Titles I downloaded.....Lata was right on with her math.....I now have 44 Titles. I just thought I would see the new Downloaded titles with the same graphic as seen on the Download page.........
Smart Music......when I click on that it wants to install I guess....music? I have backed off not sure what to do. I did find some Music Tracks under the Library.....so I am not sure what is the difference from the tracks in the Library and SmartMusic and if I should allow the Smart Music to Install?
I have been progressing.....I added my Music saved on my PC to a Project.....like the change speed option.
I am running the free Download......have any of you started out with the Free Trial and then upgrade by purchasing this software? Does the Upgrade require an Uninstall....and New Install of the Purchased Copy? The Upgrade requires a serial number.....the new purchase would have a serial number.....did you just enter that Serial Number to unlock the Trial and add the Full version features not included in the Trial?
I for one would not blame any of you for getting tried of all my questions, but again I sincerely want to thank you all......it has been extremely helpful.....

Re: Using VideoStudio; Recommendations
for videos which are imported direct into the library of VideoStudio just let the mouse cursor hover over the thumbnail in the library and a "mouse tip" will give you the recorded date - there is also an option is 'Preferences' (Settings>>Preferences") towards the bottom of the first page to "display DV code on preview window" bt whether that works or not depends as much on your computer as the clip. you can import videos from anywhere into a library pane by using the opening folder icon at the top right corner of the library pane.
I am not quite sure why you would think that fade in and fade out added separately would result in a transition - at best that will give you one clip fading out and the following clip fading in - if you want a crossfade transition then drag the crossfade transition from the transition library down onto the join between the clips - note that when you open the transition library usually only three are showing as 'Favorites' but use the little drop down at the top and select 'All' to see the full range.
Smart Music - yes please let it download and install additional tracks so you have the maximum available - my version of X5 still occasionally adds extra music to the Smart sound library when I go to use Smart sound even though it has been installed 4 months or so now. One of the biggest benefits of the Smart music function is that it allows you to make music tracks of any length which do not sound as though they have been chopped or extended you can set any length and have a smooth start and ending - unlike the music tracks in the library which all have a fixed length. you can also vary the tempo and style of any of the smart music tracks.
Yes with these newer versions of VideoStudio it is quite acceptable to buy the download version - but not use it - just use the serial number to activate the trial version - I have done that on the last two versions without any problems. There was a time in previous versions when we strongly discouraged activating trial versions as that seemed to give a lot of people problems - but it seems to be OK to do it now. ALL functions are included with the trial of X5 - there is nothing to add - unless you wish to go to the 'Ultimate' version of X5 in which the programme is identical but you do get some addition 'plug-ins' from the likes of Mercalli and Pro-dad which add extra affects to the libraries.
PS - I'm sure that Trevor (lata) will forgive you for calling him - her

My Apology to Trevor......
It may be because I imported captured Video done with a different software (Studio14).....I see Date, it is part of the name of the clip, but as to Time, every Clip as to Date and Time show thet date and exact date of the very 1st clip of my Imported Video........
I did import my previously captured Video into the Library.....I see where you can use the Import to Timeline or Library under the FILE menu; did not see what you were referring to in the Upper Right of the Library; tabs available right top of Library- Sizer\Sort\Thumbnail...Tabs). Along with my Imported Clips is P01-P05 and V1-V22. I tried to sort out these P & V clips using the tabs aboue the Library (Hide\Show tabs) and no matter what I did, these P\V Clips where always in the Library.....is there a toggle to remove and return this clips?...
Again, curious, hat is the purpose and use of the Fade-in\Fade-out in the Timeline Right click Menu?
We vacationed in the UK in the late 90's and absolutely loved the area. We did a 7 Day Guided Bus tour and got to see a lot of your beautiful country. There is so much to see and we plan someday to return. Every time I see your Queen sitting in that very Large red Chair.....I say I stood right there.......

Re: Using VideoStudio; Recommendations
My Apologies - the import to library - opening folder icon - is in the top LEFT corner of the library pane - just to the left of the three icons for hiding videos/images/music.
The fade in/fade out in the right click menu refers to the Audio of the clip - not the image - the default fade in/fade out duration can be set in "Settings >> Preferences >> Edit Tab (along top)"
not sure what you mean about the P and V clips - they are both videos of different types - if the hide/show icons are yellow you will see them but click on the first icon (film frame) and it will turn silver and the P and V clips can no longer be seen - similarly for images and sounds.
if you want to separate your videos from the samples the best way to do that is to start your own personal libraries by clicking on the word "ADD" just off the top left corner of the library above the list of libraries.

Duh....after reading your response I now see what I did. I imported my clips into the Folder entitled SAMPLE.....guess that Folder was created by default and it contained all the P and V Clips. I deleted my Clips from the Sample Folder...and following your instruction ADDED a Folder...and imported my clips into this Folder.
I might be purchasing the Ultimate version because it is the same price as the Pro version...which is the Free Download version I am running. So if I go with the Ultimate version....I wonder if its Serial Number will work avoiding an Unistall\re-install, and, is there any addil benefit by going with the Ultimate version (Newegg.com has the Ultimate version at discounted price thru 6\18 at the same price as I could purchase the Pro version).
The one thing I have not found so far in VS is something I like to use in Studio14. I can create a Title where the Text comes in split from both sides......combines to be a complete Title...then splits and rolls into a twist off the screen. This is done in Studio14 by Creating a Title with the appropriate Transitions before and after the Title.

Re: Using VideoStudio; Recommendations
rbmoving,
I my opinion using all sorts of transitions/effects etc. should be secondary to your main video. After all, you are creating a video of some of your photos, videos or whatever and not showcasing "special effects". Having a title come in from two sides, doing all sorts of contortions is a nice "ad" for that kind of software but adds nothing to what you are really trying to show. In any video I create, I avoid menus if possible and if needed keep it simple and straight-forward. Simple transitions, minimum effects, etc. such as dissolves, fade in/outs, pan & zooms are basically all I use. Whenever I see a video with fancy effects, etc I always think that the "peripherals" are more more important then the actual video.

The VideoStudio Pro X5 Ultimate programme is identical to the VideoStudio Pro X5 programme - they are identical .
You get a number of free add-ons with the Ultimate programme - that is the only difference.

Re: Using VideoStudio; Recommendations
Contacted Corel's Chat....they say they are 1st Level tech Support. They advised that if I purchase a Store Box Copy of this Software I will need to Uninstall VS Pro to include using Program & Features and..... 000012696 - Manually Removing Corel VideoStudio Pro X5 to completely remove the installed software. Its a good thing I have worked w/i the Windows registry in the past......but I would think most users would not......even creating a Restore Point or backup before you start deleting. I did see were CCleaner in a recent version update did specifically update the software to include removal files\Registry items left after an unistall of VisdeoStudio X5 Pro.....might not be all, but whatever, its that much less to do manually.
I am so impressed and appreciative with the Help and Guidance I have received from all of you in this Forum that I am going to purchase the store Boxed version of VS X5 Ultimate (because it is less than the Pro verion......as it is on Sale).
Canuck....I am with you on over doing the Transitions.....but remember, I am referring to moving Titles....so the Movie breaks to view the Titles and a few thrown in that are unique and different get plenty of complements.......and as long as there are few, have never taken anything away from the Story......... I am not so sure it cannot be done in VS....I plan to experiment....its about trying out different Transitions in from of and after Titles........Tks

Re: Using VideoStudio; Recommendations
Reading this post was most interesting. I moved from Pinnacle Studio 15 to VS5 not because Studio 15 was a poor editor but because it was "buggy" and quirky. I am slowly getting used to VS but, probably, because of the different way Studio 15 dealt with files, I still do not yet have the confidence dealing with VS.
My experience with Pinnacle and Avid support was very mixed and mostly poor. (I have not dealt with Corel support) but the Pinnacle forum was excellent and very supportive. I am now finding that the VS forum is equally as good and helpful.
In my case Pinnacle Studio (5) came as a freebe with my Canon camcorder and I stayed faithful up to 15. I was intending to upgrade to Pinnacle Studio 16 (which is a rebadged version of Avid Studio 2) when I had a minor problem with 15. I ran the installation disk to carry out a repair run only to find that the repair and uninstall options had disappeared. The outcome was that I had to let my computer dealer sort out the mess and wipe Pinnacle Studio from my PC.
He suggested I try the Trial download of VS5 as, he claimed, it gave less problems than Pinnacle. After a few days, I ordered the disks for VS5 Ultimate.
Now Corel has both VS and Pinnacle, I hope we, as consumers, get the best of the bunch. On balance I am finding VS more user friendly than Pinnacle and certainly more intuitive. If I have any gripe it is with the User Guide which, like most of its kind, explains the obvious but ignores the important detail of how the program operates in its environment. If there is one major difference it is SmartSound which is very limited, as supplied with VS, compared to Scorefitter in Pinnacle. VS has the advantage of the multiple video and audio tracks compared with Pinnacle 15. (this would be corrected in Pinnacle 16)
I have not run VS5 for long enough to claim one is better than the other but I certainly feel more relaxed running the VideoStudio software compared to Pinnacle.

Re: Using VideoStudio; Recommendations
New user of VSX5 ...
On topic personal experience: I've tried Pinnacle Studio 9 (trial version) several years ago (think it was 2003) --> all it took was 1 project to find out that video & audio was not in sync --> dropped Pinnacle (despites the recommendation from friends). Next I got my hands on Ulead MediaStudio 7.0 (cracked version)- great program with a steep learning curve - unfortunatly my first project had issues: rendered fine (took a long time on a P4), but when burned to DVD-disk showed a few "colored block" frames (nov 2004) --> "No Go". nevertheless I was somehow commited to Ulead (which turned into Corel later). Tried Corel VideoStudio12 (2009 - still on the P4-system with success - decided to "upgrade the hardware first"). Finaly purchased VSX5 (on a new I7 system)
My Question: I've captured the DV-tape with the 'split into scene option', but the recorded avi-files didn't capture the original recording datestamp (no 'original media date' in explorer). How can I accomplish this with VSX5? Also, can I set the standard file name ? (don't like the uvs121026-001-2 naming)
