Downloaded Trial. Contacted Corel Support Chat.....this one was better than my 1st. The Tutoral to install the Trial advises a serial number would be required to activate the software which made no sense since no identifying info was requested to send the serial #. No serial number is necessary to use Trial; Tutoral is incorrect. I asked about Uninstalling should this software not be right for me..... Was informed Program & Features does not completely Uninstall the VideoStudio and the agnet provided me with this link to Article 000012696 http://corel.force.com/index/articles/e ... 000000L3jx

They advised that in addition to using P&F; this article must be performed to completely delete this program. Note, it includes going into registry and removing keys and even though I have worked in the registry, each time I was very cautious....not my favorite place to work especially when it requires deletions. This is not the way it should be, P&F should be designed to do it all.........

I just wanted to report back that I completed my latest HD project successfully. More to the point, it rendered successfully and quickly to my external hard drive. The 18 minute video in fact rendered in real time i.e. it took only 18 minutes to render -- a testament no doubt to the power of the i7 processor!

I found that I had made an error with one of my voiceovers, so I had to render it afresh. This time, as an experiment, I rendered it to the C:\ drive. That too worked fine, but interestingly enough, it took exactly the same amount of time as it did with the external hard drive.

EDIT: I've just also successfully rendered the same project to AVCHD on the C:\ drive. It took 45 minutes.

Ken........Thanks for that Update..... Like I wrote, I am a step closer, I did downlaon the free Trial. What is holding me back is outlined in my 6/14 post about the steps that would need to be followed should I decide to Uninstall VideoStudio.......

Anyone have any comments? I have never really experienced a Software that in order to uninstall it completely required going into and Manually deleting registry entries.......that seems a bit much.

Very few software packages uninstall "completely", most leave all sorts of registry entries behind some of which can interfere with other programs. I use a 3rd part utility called Revo Uninstaller (http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uni ... nload.html. When used in the Moderate mode it does an excellent job of removing a program. I have never experienced any problems using it.

Hi

Most users do not have any problems in un-installing the program using the computers Program & Features (Add and Remove options)
Only when difficulties occur should you need the clean-up facility.

As canuck says most if not all software packages do not un-install completely.
Even using the "revouninstaller" will not remove everything.

Installed VideoStudio..... learning Curves can be quicker if the questions are asked making comparisions to a Software you already know......

As mentioned, have been using Studio14 by Pinnacle for 10 years. So naturally when using a new Software you look for features you know from the old software and hope they work the same. Like the Window that opens when you start VS....it is very similar to Studio14.

1) I have saved .....or I should say, VS saved a project. I can see it when I go to File..Open Project. I can also see it listed at the bottom of the File menu. What I have not found is DELETE PROJECTS. In my Studio14 software there is a DELETE PROJECTS under the File menu which opens another Window displaying all SAVED projects and you can Highlite and delete the projects you no longer need. How do I delete projects in VideoStudio?

2) When Studio14 Renders it actually saves the Rendering as you are editing the Project....... I will assume real Time rendering is taking place as you are working with VS? Could be wrong here, Studio14....when you add a Transition to your Timeline.....it turns Green and Renders...then appears Normal. So as you are working and Editing the project...rendering is taking place.....and this is being Saved. Because I tend to move all around my Studio14 projects adding....removing...shortening clips...adding Transitions and Titles.....when I get ready to Make my Movie......Studio14 under its File menu has a DELETE AUXILARY Files...which is the Rendering File. By doing this you you have removed all saved rendering....and the entire project will Render again....thus giving you a New....render. Even as I write this it comes off Complicated.....but it works.

Does VS work this way? Or does it wait until you are Making the Movie to Disc that it Renders.....and when it is finished the Output Render is automatically deleted ( and if not, is there a re render File that needs to be manually deleted...and how is that done?)

3) Studio14 allows you to Scroll a Title from Bottom to Top.....like you see Movie credits.....and also allows scrolling across the Bottom. Can this be done is VS?

4) Studio14 has a bunch of Transition...I must have 150 (and when you get right down to it.....the majority are never used). It has "signs", ie Yield, Stoplight Ahead, etc.....it has pctures.....like Fish jumping in and out of the Water.....anything like this for VS?

Your assistance will speed alomg my Learning curve and be appreciated; Thanks to all

What do you mean by "delete Projects"? If you just mean to delete the project file (the one with the vsp extension) then you simply use Windows Explorer just like you delete any other file. If you mean to delete all files associated with a project then that is something altogether different and is something I certainly would not want on any menu.

Title scrolling (any direction you want) is easily done in VS X5. Just select the Title task and experiment

Your learning curve would speed along much faster if you were to look at some of the dozens of tutorials available for viewing or downloading.

You are right; Tutorals would benefit my learning curve; I still appreciate the 'Human" responses...you can take a lot of time watching Tutorals for just one answer....on how to do.

By deleting.....yes, after you have finished Burning your Movie....and you no longer have any need for the Project......how do you delete everything that was created and part of that project. I know I would delete the captured Video in Explorer......but what about all the other parts. The saved project and any other files saved. I want to be sure after I am finished with a project nothing is left behind on my PC that is taking space that I'll never have need for.

Tne extension for VS is Saved Projects is .vsp I Opened the Folder where VS saves it .vsp files, deleted the VSP file. When I opened VS......this same project was still displayed in the File menu at the bottom.....even though I had deleted it. When a project is deleted I would have thought that project would drop from the File menu...it no longer has any value to be there since the File it points has been deleted.......

There is a video tutorial here on creating scrolling titles :- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iwf8Tfk8 ... ture=g-upl

a tutorial for 'ticker tape' text is here :- http://www.misterfrag.com/ScrollingTitle.wmv

When you start a new project create a new "Working Folder" (using windows) - give it a name related to the project - now when using VideoStudio make sure that everything is directed to that folder - including capture, project .vsp, rendering and burn info - then when you have finished the project again use windows to delete the whole folder.

Almost every software programme leaves the name of all recent files in it's "recent" folder - VideoStudio is not alone in that - as you open other files they are pushed down the list and eventually vanish.

Hi rbmoving

After deleting the VSP file using Windows Explorer, yes the project still shows at the bottom of the File list, click it to open and the program will say it cannot find the file, the text will be removed.

The list will hold 4 of your most recent used project files, a quick start.

Well done on noticing these quick launch options not all users are aware of them.

Thank you.....that worked and so simple (delete project using Explorer\Click on the deleted Project in VS......it shows it can't be found....and the project is gone from the File menu)....no where is any of the VS documentation could I fime this answer.....so simple....but not documented.

Sudio14 for the longest time did not have a Delete Project on the File menu....but added that a few years back........

I had Imported video from my Digital Camcorder using Studio14.....the file format captured is .avi. I tried to Import that same Captured Video into VS. Using CAPTURE\Import from Digital Media....selecting the Folder where the Captured Video was.....I was able to open it in VS....but, it only let me Play it...the START IMPORT Buttom would not activate........ the Import from Digital Media shows FORMAT: Video File. I was hoping to save some time and not have to re-capture the Video......have I failed to do something? The captured Video imported to VS Import from Digital Media screen as an entire clip as opposed to individual clips..... Ihad thought I would see the individual clips.

So if I want to use this already catured Video (.avi Format)....I'll need to re-Capture it again using VS? Or I need to move this captured Video into Corels' Working Folder and then Import?

If you have already captured the video to your hard drive then you can use it just like any other video on your hard drive. Simply add the captured video to your project library and use it. "Capture/import" is not neede anymore once you have the video on your hard drive.

Hi

The capture process is used to transfer video from an external device to the computer, Video Studio has as you have found out a Capture option.
However once the video is saved to the hard drive it can be inserted to the timeline.
You have already captured the video to the computer using another program.

Do one of the following
Right click the timeline and select Insert Video
or
File-Insert Media File to Timeline- Insert Video
I use the first option

Then browse the hard drive for your video files.
The files will be placed in the timeline.

There are two views.
Timeline view -- Shows a continuous film
Storyboard view shows the clips as thumbnails.

Go to F6 Preferences--Display Clip Mode--set to Thumbnail only and the display will show the full frames.

Thanks to all of you, I have sucessfully made my 1st Movie and burned it to DVD. Although nothing fancy, I even created a Title scrolling from top to bottom after looking at the UTube Video that was recommended. Created a 29 min Project and it burned in 19 mins........

Not to be ignorant....why do all the Template Titles initially have text written in other than English.....I realize once opened you then type in your message.....just curious????

The other issue...and I am sure this was my fault, the DVD starts with a Root menu......it shows the name I gave to the Project and PRS_20120616 (what is this some sort of Code\Stamp and it will always appear?). Will this Top\Root menu always burn with your Movie?

Had I clicked "Use 1st clip as IntroductoryVideo"...would that have kept the Root menu from being created? Or is this just a default.....or, is it selectable and how would I stop my Project from Burning with thus Root menu and the Movie just start automatically? I just normally like to insert my DVD's and the playback starts.......

What is really nice about VS.....it creates or leaves behind a small amt of files. Studio14 creates many more large files when rendering that get saved to the hard drive....which in my thinking is working that hard drive.....so VS works the Hard drive much less.

The menu template titles are usually in the default language of your installation - did you have a different language set when you installed VideoStudio - mine are all in English.

If you do not require a menu then you need to untick "Create Menu" in the bottom left corner of the first window in the Create Disc module.

The PRS number is simply a default number given to the menu until you change it to your own title - it is simply the date written as year/month/day.

The "use 1st clip as introductory video" option plays the first clip in the burn module timeline and then displays the menu - could be used as an advertisemeny or promotion before the user can play the video.
