Videostudio Pro x3 / x4 Question

Post by stivessheep »

Hi folks i have both titles and i appologise to admin if this has been asked before but i have searched and searched without success

I film motocross events and produce dvd's for the clubs and members of the public , lately the amount of footage we getting is getting bigger like this weekend 5hrs worth , okay this contains both good and useless footage , so i make a 2 dvd set , sometimes i do a double set of 1st Quads and Sidecars and 2ndly solo's/bikes , but this time i want to make a 2 dvd disc set of everything , is there a function i am missing that will automatically once i have edited and joined etc etc produce all the footage onto 2 dvd's as 1 project ? or do i have to keep make one then insert the unused data into the timeline and make the 2nd ?

Many thanks in advance and i hope this makes sense regards :D :D

I do not know of any automatic way to split a project over two discs in the burn module.

This is the method I use - it works well for me - although I don't think you can use it in X3 - OK for most other versions though.

First complete all your editing - all 4 - 5 hours of it in the timeline - on completion of all editing don't forget to save your project.

Now make sure you are in 'project' mode and look immediately under the preview screen at a coloured line with two orange pointers under it - using you mouse drag the right hand orange pointer to the left until it is at a point approx halfway where you want to split your video - an orange line will appear over the timeline showing what will now be the 'selected' (or 'preview') portion.

Now go to "Share >> Create Video File >> DVD > ####" - and in the save box which opens look to the bottom right corner and find an "options" button - click on that and at the top of the new window which opens change the radio button selection from 'Entire project' to 'preview range' click OK and give the video a sensible name like "project part 1" - this will make a video from just the selected portion of your project.

now go back to the timeline and change the position of the orange sliders to select the second half - then follow the above procedure again calling the video part 2 so that it can be identified from the first part.

Go back to the timeline again and move both orange sliders to their respective ends to remove the orange line over your timeline.

Now go to "Share >> Create Disc >> DVD" and when the burn module opens DELETE the thumbnail in the timeline - now use the 'add media' icon to import the part one video file of your project - continue to burn a disc.

once your disc has burnt go back to the first screen in the burn module - delete the part one video and add your part two video and again burn your second disc.

you should now have your project spread over two discs.

If you are going to need multiple copies of your discs then at the final screen in the burn module either create Video Folders or an .iso file.

Hi Brian thats excellent many thanks , up until now ive had to guess the amount of mins i can fit onto a dvd and then delete the entire timeline of the over spill footage then burn the first part of the footage and then re-insert the over spill and then carryon editing until the 2nd part is ready , your steps above make great sense and will enable me to just go straight through editing and make life alot easier for me thankyou , as for multiple copies its okay as once i have written the 1st and 2nd disc i use a tower duplicator to produce the amount the shops and clubs want again many thanks & regards :D :D
