Help with Service Pack 2

Post by Loy »

I recently purchased PaintShop Pro X4 Ultimate which I downloaded directly from Corel. How can I tell if my program already has service pack 2 installed?

Well Service Pack 2 has a build number of 14.2.0.1.

This appears on the Splash screen as PSP is loading. Or if you go to the Help menu and click "about PaintShop Pro" it'll say in the resulting dialog what the version number is.

Another way is to go to the Help menu and have it manually check for an update. Of course this isn't always reliable as sometimes it has not found an update for me until at least a week after installation. Sometimes it finds it right away.

The last way is to actually download SP2 and see if it installs. :D

This is what Corel says on its website about SP2:
"This service pack can be applied to software that is not already updated to SP1 (14.1.0.5)."

do I understand this right, I CANNOT install the SP2 if I have already SP1 ???
Why should I then ever install a new SP if this prevents me of installing a another later? I have the Nikon P7100 which is supported with SP2, but I cannot use this new function because I have SP1???? Unbelievable!

No, no no no no.

It CAN be installed on software that is not already updated to SP1. Operative word "can" as in you don't need to install SP1 to use SP2. So go wild.

SP2 contains all of the fixes in SP1 along with all of its own. So don't feel limited. Original Install? SP1? Doesn't matter, if you need SP2, install SP2 simple as that.

To add on to what LefiFiction is saying in previous versions of PSP (X3 in particular) SP2 depended on SP1 being installed. If you installed SP2 before installing SP1 the program would have issues. But with PSP X4 it is not required to install SP1 before installing SP2, but if you do have SP1 installed there will be no issues with installing SP2. The wording of the notice for SP2 is a little odd, they are just reassuring anyone who had X3 issues that you don't need to jump through as many hoops.
