I changed over from Win XP to Win 7 a couple of weeks ago. For starters, DVD WS2 did not work. I researched this on Google and found the solution.
Everything now works including sound. What is the solution?
Windows 7 does not come with DirectX, the best version being DirectX 9.0c. I believe DirectX comes on the DVD WS2 install disk. Another file that does not come with Win 7 is d3drm.dll and this can be found by a Google search. A couple of sites have this file available as either a RAR or Zip file. This needs installing into the DVDWS2 program folder.
I suspect that DirectX takes care of the sound problem experienced by other users in this forum.
When you re-install DVDWS you need to right click the DVDWS shortcut and click properties. Go to the compatibility tab and set compatibility mode to Windows XP SP3. Uncheck "Disable Desktop Composition" (aka Aero) to prevent preview crashing the program.
I am running the 32bit version of Win 7 Ultimate but believe that it will run under 64 bit as well. (this info may apply to Vista as well)
Pity that Corel decided to ditch DVDWS - in my opinion the best DVD authoring program ever produced! Can't see that with some additional programming that DVDWS could be made to handle HD video. There's just nothing around that matches DVDWS for features and ease of use.......
DVD WS2 works with Win 7 perfectly!

Re: DVD WS2 works with Win 7 perfectly!
Thank you for the information! I have just installed Windows 7 Professional and was agitated that I could not make DVDWS2 work! I echo you sentiments, a big pity that DVDWS 2 has been discontinued. I am using Corel Movie factory but cannot get anywhere near the same results. I am happy again now. Doug aka manxkat-33

Re: DVD WS2 works with Win 7 perfectly!
I am using Vista Home Premium.
I have just installed DWS2 and taken all your tips and DWS2 works perfectly except for Video previews and of course no audio.
The video preview is not such a problem as I can still see the thumbnails of the chapters etc... but the audio is a little more essential as it would be nice to hear before burning.
I'm hoping that as DWS2 is working on vista that someone might have a tip on how to get the audio back.
I have tried re-installing DWS2 and the directx on my system is newer than the one on the disc.
Long live DWS2 theres nothing else like it.

Ebay is your best bet if you want to obtain a legal copy. Still using it on Win7 myself.
