Import from digital media in VS Pro X5
I have recently upgraded to VS Pro X5 from VS Pro X2, and have a question about the import from digital media feature. I've ripped my DVD folder to my HD and select Import from digital media. The title and chapter thumbnails appear, but it takes a while for the graphics to appear. Also, when I try to play an associated thumbnail to determine exactly what I want to import, VS Pro X5 enters a non responding state for some time, depending on the size of the video. It does eventually continue and plays the title or chapter. When I select the title or chapter for importing, it does in fact import, it's just the delay in playing the clip that I'm questioning. But when I run the same process on the same computer in VS Po X2, the process is almost instantaneous. Since both programs are still installed, I realize that I cam simply use VS Pro X2 whenever I need to use import from digital media. It's just odd that the earlier version of the program would perform this function better than the more recent version. Am I missing something or doing something wrong?

Re: Import from digital media in VS Pro X5
Hi
We have had reports of newer versions being slower than the older ones, i have not compared these versions......
Anyway i have just run a quick test.
Copied the Video_TS folder from disc to hard drive.2.5 Gb of files, so the times will be a little slower for a 4.3 Gb folder.
Using X2
Reading the contents was quick, a few seconds delay between titles, I had 12 titles.
Imported to X2 took a total of 2 min 30 sec.
X5
I was expecting it to be slower, sorry.
It took 2 min 10 seconds, and that was slow as I took a while to select the 12 titles.
The reading of the titles was faster, the importing of the files was faster.
To be honest I was quite impressed.
I am trying to think of a reason why your tests were different, It may be the speed of your pc that causes the delays, but you do not give any details, update your profile to include the pc spec'
Even so you should be able to run a comparison

Re: Import from digital media in VS Pro X5
Thanks for the reply. However, my issue is not with the actual loading of the thumbnails or the import function itself. X5 works as well as, if not better than X2 when doing the actual import. It's when I attempt to play the title or chapter before doing the import that X5 hangs before eventually launching the player and playing. It's not always clear which title or chapter I want to import, so playing them helps. This hang doesn't happen in X2 but does in X5.

cantinoro have you tried checking the smart proxy settings on VS X5? That can affect on the playback or preview of the imported video.

Re: Import from digital media in VS Pro X5
Hi cantinoro
I do not have a problem with playing/reviewing the chapter/titles prior to importing.
I have a disc that contains 12 Titles, there are no Chapters although X5 displays one for each Title.
When I press Play a new window opens, (takes 2 seconds to open) i can scroll through each Title in turn.
If I choose to play a Chapter i have to close the window opening a new for each chapter, that does make things a little slower but only because i have to open and close the window. The program does not "hang".
Other menu formats may perform differently, a single Title having 12 Chapter points may be slower to review. Unfortunately I cannot confirm these thoughts.

Smart Proxy is used for High Definition files having a frame size greater than 720, it is applied to clips imported to the timeline.
The video cantinoro is using is being imported from a Video TS folder, as such it is Standard Definition, the files have yet to be imported to the timeline. Smart Proxy has nothing to do with this operation.

Re: Import from digital media in VS Pro X5
Well that's weird. When playing titles/chapters from the same video TS folder, the entire process works fine with X2 but not so much with X5. I was hoping to not need to keep X2 installed. But I guess I'll need to keep both versions. Oh well. Thanks anyway.

Using X5, I double click a title/chapter, the Preview window opens, I click play and the video starts to play right away. No indication of any problem or delaycantinoro wrote:Well that's weird.
