Deleting images outside of AfterShot

Post by madbrain »

I'm a newbie with AS Pro - just got it a week ago.

If I use the catalog function, and somehow delete master files outside of AfterShot, is there any way to get AfterShot to acknowledge that ?
In this case, it still shows the preview with a red mark.
I would like to refresh the catalog to remove missing/deleted entries.
I don't see any refresh function anywhere.

Please don't tell me I must only use Aftershot to delete photos ...

As far as I know you are correct, you would need to delete your files in AfterShot. In order to remove an entire folder from your catalog you have to select the folder in the Library tab, delete all the contents of that folder...and then right click on the folder name and select "Remove Empty Folder". It does seem annoying that AfterShot does not recognize when you delete files outside of the program, BUT this can be a good thing believe it or not. If you store files on an external drive, and the drive is not powered up....you can still see the content that is on the external drive by browsing through a Catalog that contains imported files from that drive. That is what I've done with my "Archive" drives...

This is normal behavior for a DAM application. As Wilson pointed out, it allows for offline drives. Once you pull an image into a management database (nee, catalog), you need to do all your file operation within it so the db stays updated.
