Lens detection : works with PEF, not JPG or DNG

Post by madbrain »

I have a Pentax K-r and a Pentax DA 18-250 lens .

If I shoot in JPEG or DNG, AfterShot Pro never auto-detects the lens.

If I shoot PEF, it auto-detects it correctly.

I know the lens information is also in the JPEG and DNG files because the Pentax tool correctly detects the lens in all 3 types of files.
I tried to attach some samples straight out of the camera, but even shooting at 2MP with the lowest quality, the JPEG attachment would be bigger than the 256KB limit allowed. I don't want to use an editor which might mess up the EXIF . The RAW files are 18MB each.

I have the same problem with Pentax K10D generated DNGs (but not with PEFs).
Reported to the monkey, file upload #336.

I had this problem (amongst others)
I found fix using a script during import. It works with JPGs, and it should work with DNGs since Exiftool is supposed to handle them, but I can't check.
