Export with alpha channel

Export with alpha channel
I am using X4 and am familiar with chroma keying and setting backgrounds but I am trying to export the video with the alpha channel so I can create a flash file with transparency to use for walk on video (where the person appears in the foreground of the site with wmode set to transparent). I have Corel Motion 3D and some of the kbase was suggesting I needed to use that to export with the alpha channel but it would be a lot simpler to be able to push it out from X4. Even if I can do it as non-flash file I can take it to something like Ijoysoft and convert to flash. any help is greatly appreciated. - steve

found this thread after posting - http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... rent+flash
sounds like still no way to output 32 bit except using quicktime. can somebody run me through steps to use CorelMotion 3D or alternative to Qtime?

Re: Export with alpha channel
getting nowhere with Quicktime. anybody know if Premiere Elements will do this?
Re: Export with alpha channel
had support session with Corel. It is not looking like it is possible;
. i cannot export video with 32bit alpha channel (i know how to chroma key and all that but the program misses the 8 bits of transparency so I cannot make walk on video)
[Edgar] Okay.
[Edgar] Thank you for patiently waiting.
[Edgar] I'm sorry, but Boris Graffiti cannot output 32-bit alpha channel.

Re: Export with alpha channel
Edgar is mistaken about Boris Graffiti.
Within Boris Graffiti advanced settings, toggle off track visibility for the video background layer.
File > Export > Movie File
Movie Type: AVI - VFW
Compression: Full Frames (Uncompressed).
Alpha: Straight

Re: Export with alpha channel
Thanks Kingston. That got me a lot closer. I have Boris 5 running in VX5 but I have only export to targa file available. No export to AVI is available.
Also, if I toggle off the background the entire AVI i brought into the timeline disappears. I cannot figure out how to export it out of VX5 as an AVI to split out the background I have chroma keyed.

Re: Export with alpha channel
Sorry, I deleted my post as you were inserting your last msg... I had done so because I read your first msg above again, and saw you were talking about X4 which uses Boris 5.3. So I wanted to open X4 and check there. But it too offers export to Targa, Movie (including AVI - VFW) and Flash, as does Boris 5.4 in X5. So I am puzzled why you cannot see these latter two export possibilities.

me too. I'm at a dead end. not sure what to do. tried reinstalling but still not export option other than targa.
Re: Export with alpha channel
Installed to another workstation (also Windows 7). Installed VX5 Ultimate and Boris 5.4. Also no output menu pick for movie, only Targa.

If you haven't already, you might want to look at this thread -- particularly towards the end -- to see if it gives you any more ideas... http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 80#p249380

Re: Export with alpha channel
Ken - are you saying that my output file is defeating having a menu pick from Boris to export as a movie? that does not make any sense to me - STeve

Re: Export with alpha channel
No -- I was wanting to suggest there might be an alternative to using Boris...

Re: Export with alpha channel
unless you have better suggestion, after starting with version 6 in 2005 I have to go to premiere pro.

You do need a pointy head to use Boris Graffiti.
