iF you use 4 overlay tracks. If I want to insert it later into a movie in the middle of a video track timeline.
How can I do it. Because the effect is only on overlay tracks.
Is the a way to change it so all the overlay tracks merge into one video track in the timeline ?
Then I could inset it anywhere I wanted in the timeline.
Also when you want to make a DVD one option near the bottom is "use first clip as introductory video"
What does that mean?
Thanks

Can you post the link to the "moving block demo"?barbarak wrote:I just want to know out how, after I make something like your moving block demo.

An introductory video usually means a video that plays when the DVD is inserted and would play before the main menu appears. It will not play again until the DVD is reinserted nor will it play if you click the Menu button

OK I just want to know if you use 4 overlay tracks. and if I want to insert it later into a movie in the middle of a video track timeline.

Then I could inset it anywhere I wanted in the timeline.
In other words how can I combine overlay tracks into one that I can use in the video track?

What does that mean?

You can save and include it to your Library, so that you can use it on other project. If you want to insert it in the middile of a video track timeline, you will need to split that video, in order to insert it.

No, you will need to render the project into a video file.

Just like what is says "use first clip as introductory video" you'll use the first clip as an intro video, specially if you'll create menus.

Re: how to make timeline from overlay tracks
Ok got it I have to save it to ab avi file first.
I have another question re: avi.
If I have a 20 min video on timeline and overlay tracks.
How can I save to an avi like you said, only a small part of it say, in the middle of the project.
Say I just want to save 20 seconds of the combined video. So I will be able to use just that part in another project if I want.
What is batch rendering or saving mean? I may have the wrong words.
Thanks Barb

Re: how to make timeline from overlay tracks
Hi Barb
Not sure i understand what you are after, but a few thoughts..............
When we work with Video Studio we are editing a Project.
Your 4 overlay tracks are saved as a Project File a VSP (Video Studio Project)
So when you say Save I assume you are saving the project. File Save or Save As.
--------------------
You can render/convert the project to a single video file.
Share--Create Video File, there are several options to choose from, well quite a few......
You mention AVI, but there are approx 800 different types, Dv-Avi being just one.
Right click one of your video files in the timeline and select properties, what are they.?
-------------------
Once you have rendered the project to a single file, you can treat it as any other video clip.
Ideally you should try to use the same properties as the original video file.
-------------------
Again not sure I understand the reference to saving 20 seconds, I assume you mean rendering part to a video file.
There is an option to select a Project Playback Range, this is done by using the trim handles immediately below the preview screen, a red or orange bar will be visible above the timberlines.
If you were to select the 20 second section you can render just that part, from the Save Video window choose the Options button, then select project playback range only.
Read this guide that explains about the project playback range, and other uses......

Re: how to cut timeline and use only 20 sec of it
Thanks I will try that.
When I said 20 seconds. I just meant that as an example. For saving as an avi, I just wanted to use it in another project.
I only wanted to be able to cut out a little part of a short part of a video on a video and overlay track and use just that part
somewhere else. without saving the whole program that is about 20 minutes long. I try for nothing complicated, So I have to use the blue track above the timeline. That is what I have to figure out how to use it.
Thanks
Barb

Re: how to make timeline from overlay tracks
Hi
The blue track seems to have changed colour for X5 its white????????
The Project Playback Range aka Preview Range is set from project playback, the word Project adjacent to the play button is highlighted.
Scrub the timeline, dragging the cursor.
Notice the digital clock (lower right preview screen ) indicates the position.
Click the clock to change its setting, this will allow you to change position frame by frame
Once you have your cursor positioned for the start press F3 ( you can also select by pressing the square bracket above the clock.)
An orange line will appear
Drag the cursor again to select the end of your selection, PressF4
The orange line now indicates the Preview Range
The white bar below the preview screen will also indicate the selection.
Press play and only the selection will play.
Re-adjust the selection if required, I find using the digital clock and square brackets to be the best option
From Share Create Video File, choose an option
from the Create Video File window, choose Options, select Preview Range instead of Entire Project
The selected range will be rendered to a new video file.
