Burning a Blu-ray disk in Movie Factory
Hi
I'm not sure if this should be posted here or in DVD Movie Factory forum, so I'll start here first.
I have tried burning a Blu-ray disk using Movie Fatory 7 without any success. First of all I tried to burn an mpeg file to the disk (File Format not supported message in DVD Movie Factory), then in VS4 I tried "create video file" as a blu-ray format PAL Mpeg2 1920x1080 in VS4 - then went to "Create Disc" opened DVD Movie Factory 7 and selected BluRay, (File Format not supported message in DVD Movie Factory), so then I searched these forums and found that it looked like I should create a AVCHD file format in VS4 PAL HD 1920, so I did that and then went to "Create Disc" and got the same error message that file is not supported.
How do I create a BluRay disc that will play in a bluray machine? I have bought blank BluRay discs, but Movie Factory won't burn my file formats??
Thanks for any help

Re: Burning a Blu-ray disk in Movie Factory
Are you using the PRO version or just the regular DVD Movie Factory 7? I asked because only the Pro version can create a BluRay disc. But if you have the VS X4, then you do not need to use DVD Movie Factory to create Bluray, since VS X4 have its own burning module.
On VS X4, you can just go to SHARE > CREATE DISC > Blu-ray. You can check the screen shot below as a reference.

Hi Peta
Can you confirm that you are using Video Studio X4 and not X3.
As Abiel mentioned if you are using Video Studio X4 then you do not need to use Movie factory.
Video Studio X4 will do all you require to edit, create a video file and burn a disc.

Ahhhh my bad!! I am still on VS3 (wishful thinking it was VS4 !!). So I have to upgrade to VS4 to burn BluRay? Even though I am offered the chance to burn a blu-ray in DVD Movie Factory (and no it is not Pro)
Cheers

Re: Burning a Blu-ray disk in Movie Factory
I believe -- unlike Abiel -- that MF 7 SE can indeed burn Blu-Ray discs. I have just gone through the process of setting up a burn on it, and it accepted the video files I put into it.
But an option is not to burn an actual disc, but instead select 'Blu-Ray Folders' as the output. Then you can use a freeware program like ImgBurn to burn the actual disc, using the folder you create. Make sure you read the ImgBurn instructions, though... Or if you have a recent version of Nero, or another burning suite like Ashampoo Burning Studio 10 or 11, it will also burn the folder to disc.
Can you also confirm that you have a Blu-Ray burner? Needless to say, you won't be able to burn one on a normal DVD burner. And you need to note that by default, MF seems to default to a DVD burner, at least on my computer.

Hi Ken
Thanks for the reply and yes my burner is blu-ray capable. I will try as you suggest and save to blu-ray folder.

Hi Ken, or anyone else who can contribute
If you are monitoring this weekend, I am not given an option to save to a "Blu-ray folder" at any stage?? Where exactly should that option appear?
Thanks

Re: Burning a Blu-ray disk in Movie Factory
Have a look at the image below. You have probably got a screen where the double arrow over on the right is pointing downwards. Click on it, and the Folders option will appear over on the left, as in the picture. The right-hand arrow will then point upwards.
Make sure you untick 'Create to Disc'.
Note also that there is no ISO option for Blu-Ray -- just the Folder option.

Re: Burning a Blu-ray disk in Movie Factory
I don't get that far in the process. As soon as I go to Create disc I am offered either DVD Factory Pro 2010 or DVD MovieFactory 7 SE (I know not to use the former) so I select MF 7 SE and am offered either an Existing project or a new project (this is new). I select Blu-ray which offers output as BD only. Then I go to add media and I select my file which I created as a blu-ray (Mpeg) format and it tells me it's not supported. I have tried AVCHD and normal Pal DVD all return the message "file format of .... is not supported". I doin't get as far as Menu & Preview 3) Output as per your screenshots. No wonder I don't see the file folder option.

Re: Burning a Blu-ray disk in Movie Factory
If you make your final video file, then close VS, you can open MF 7 SE as a stand-alone program and insert your files manually that way.

Hi
From Video Studio, add the new file that you created as a blu-ray (Mpeg)
Right click the clip in the timeline and select properties. what are they?
It does seem strange that the program does not recognise the file.
Can you confirm that you are indeed adding a video file and not a VSP file?

Re: Burning a Blu-ray disk in Movie Factory
The video file properties are: PAL HDMV MPEG-2 Upper field first.
When I created the video file I selected Blu-ray/PAL MPEG2 (1920x1080)
The DVD MF7 I have is Pro, not SE
The urgency for the Blu-ray disc has now passed, as it was needed last evening. I have upgraded to VS5 so I guess I won't be needing MF any more. I bought some Verbatim BD-R recordable discs, and tried to burn the blu-ray video file selecting Blu-ray in the "Create Disc" option, added the file and went through to burning it. At about 99% I got an "Unspecified error" message. I tried the disc anyway but it wasn't recognised by the Blu-ray player, by then I had run out of time to do any more, so had to abandon it.
