I have finished authoring my first DVD with VSX5. The VIDEO_TS folder and contents have been produced successfully. However the burned folder is a disaster and will not play past the title menu. I have used Nero for the burn.
It is not a media problem because I have used the same media brand on hundreds of project and hardly ever had problems.
I have also tried to play the project from the VIDEO_TS folder via the IFO file. I can get past the title menu to the chapters menu but again highlighting a chapter will not change the thumbnail in the Smart Menu window but the Play button works.
I authored the same movie in Pinnacle Studio 12.1 and had no problems.
Sorry, but what do you mean that the video_ts file was produced successfully, then? You produced that successfully but then used another program to burn the disc, but appear to blame VS for the unsuccessful disc...?
Ken, The application had no problems produceing a VIDEO_TS folder. It's not a matter of a bad burn but a matter of authoring.
Trevor, I think you have missed the part in my post where I said that I have tried to play the movie from the VIDEO_TS folder using the IFO file. Every thing works fine when I test the project using Preview.
I have not modified the menus in any way.
When I move the highlight from one chapter to the other, the motion thumbnail in the window does not change.
You have a problem in producing and playing a disc, I gave you some options to try and identify where the problem may be.
Options that will save waisting a disc.
I assume you will try those, as i say i cannot help with nero.
When you used Pinnacle Studio 12 (again i cannot help here) i assume you used a different menu template?
Ok
How did you set up the burner module.
How did you add the movies.?
There are two approaches.
1 / with your project open in the timeline Share Create Disc, will open the burner module showing your project as a single thumbnail.
2 / Start a new project, nothing in the timeline.
Share Create Disc--opens the burner module
Add video/vsp files- icons top left.
which method did you use?
For both methods you now add/create chapter points.
I notice you have 3 pages of chapters, at 6 per page is this correct?

Trevor, Thank you for your assistance. I have used Ulead DVD Workshop 2 since it has been published and still use it. I also still use MesdiaStudio Pro 7.
I used metod 2. Yes 3 pages of 6 per page.
Added chapter points by time.
The problem is; when I highlight chapters, the picture in the window will not change unless I click the mouse button. The second click will start playing from that chapter.
In the Preview, by just moving the highlight to the next chapter will change the picture.
Preview Playback
viewing the chapter page, when you float the mouse over the chapter points each point will be "highlighted" in turn.
The image will change to show the new chapter point.
Clicking will play that chapter and the rest to the end of the title.
Edit Mode
When editing the chapter menu, selecting a chapter point merely allows you to edit its details, that is change the text, It is not an option to view the function of the link.
In the same way that clicking the triangle does not play the video, just selects to edit it.
The image will remain as the first frame of the title video file.
The question is, after you have completed the Burn Disc stage---does the disc or Video TS folder play ok on your pc
---------------------------
You say "The second click will start playing from that chapter."
are you sure you are in edit mode and able to play the video.

Playing from a VIDEO_TS folder, floating the mouse pointer over a chapter will not change the image to show the new chapter point. Only when I click the mouse will the image change. The second click will then play from that point to the end.
While in the application Preview window every thing works fine and floating the mouse pointer over the chapter point will show the new image.
I have run a few tests burning the video to an ISO file, then play the file using VLC Player
When I use the mouse to select the chapters, floating the mouse highlights the chapter, one click selects the chapter and changes the image, a second click plays the video.
If I use the Keyboard arrow keys to navigate, the chapter point images refresh straight away showing a new image, pressing carriage return to play.
I then burned the iso to disc. DVD RW
This plays the same as above using VLC Player
When I play the disc on my DVD Player / TV the disc menu performs normally, OK.
I select each chapter either by selecting a number or using the arrows to navigate, in each case the image updates to show the correct chapter.
I do not have a problem with the final disc.
The only issue is playing on the PC and the way the menu interprets the mouse commands.
Its not wrong, its just different.

Can you answer these following question.
Is the DVD that you authored can be played using a regular DVD player or the problem only happens when you play the authored DVD on your computer?
The problem happens on any player that you use on your computer?
Trevor, I reinstalled VSX5 and the situation has improuved. I have the same result as your test, both on my PC and on a DVD player. Please read on, my reply to Abiel.
Abiel, I have now authored a DVD and burned it using VSX5 all the way. The finished DVD plays on my DVD player but take some time to respond. It takes a long time to respond to commands, like going from one chapter to another or moving from page to page. When I move from one chapter to another it takes about 5 seconds for the chapter picture to change.
