Hi all... I've looked through the forums and knowledge base with no luck.
I'm using VSP X4 to make some short slide shows to be embedded in websites. I have been successful in creating them and converting into a WMV movie for broadband, 320 x 240 for fast loading on the website page.
All works well in terms of the slideshow presenting on the site page, but no matter how I size the container, or change the object code when converting, the slideshow always has a black bar at the top and the bottom of the slideshow. I've changed aspect ratios with no success in removing these black bars. I use CSS to create the container for the slideshow, and the container is coded for a white background, yet, the slideshow continues to have these black bars at the top and bottom. Any ideas on how I can remove these, assuming it's VSP4 that's creating them? Any tips would be very welcome.
Cheers & thanks,
Bill

Hi Bill
Can you give details regarding the project properties.
By default they will use widescreen 16:9.
You are rendering the video to 4:3 ( 320 x 240)
What size are the images you are using, (dimentions in pixels)
After you create the wmv file, does that contain the black bars, or are they only seen when embedded to the web page.
Can you post the web address.

Re: VSP X4 slide show presentation
Hi there, and thanks for the reply.
Original photos are low resolution gifs, 250 high x 350 wide.
When I play the wmv file, on my screen, there is quite a lot of black right & left, and narrower top & bottom.
The url is: http://www.eco-cabinets.ca/wall-units.php
Thank you much for any help. I'm pulling out what little hair I have left trying to resolve this.
Bill

Re: VSP X4 slide show presentation
Hi Bill
You appear to be using Video Studio with 4:3 aspect ratio. Is this correct.
Make sure the option from Settings--Widescreen is not selected.
The images however are not using 4:3 ratio. Crop your images to use the aspect ratio of 4:3 and they will fill the screen
Try 320px x 240px
This is the size that you created when rendering the video
Your images are 350 x 250 the difference being the black bar top and bottom.
Using a larger image size is not a problem and may improve the quality, the important thing is to use 4:3 aspect (800px x 600px) is also 4:3
Using a larger size will also give the option of increasing the video frame size and still maintain quality.
------------------------------
To view the actual video frame go to preferences (F6) and change the background colour, anything but black. add your images and you will identify the bar in colour. Any black being the unused portions of the preview screen.
--------------------------
The other option is to make the images Fit to Screen, this will distort the images a little.
select the images in the timeline, under the library select the Photo tab--choose Resampling Option as Fit to Screen
-------------------------
The last option would be to create a new WMV profile to your image size, this would be more trouble than its worth.
---------------------------
I would opt for re-sizing the images to use 4:3 ratio

Re: VSP X4 slide show presentation
Trevor... works like a charm. Thanks so much for taking the time.
Can I ask one more? When the slideshow / movie is loading, the field appears black for a second or two. Is there a way that you know of that I can use to prevent that black window appearing?
Cheers,
Bill

Re: VSP X4 slide show presentation
Hi Bill
I assume the video when played from the pc does not have a black frame at the beginning.
I would think this is part of the wmv player embedded to the web page.
In fact I have a similar effect when playing wmv, however the player does have a control panel and the second seems to play is ok.
There is a flash version, however this seems to show a white screen? can't win
View the links at the bottom of this page.
