Global Filters not working properly

Post by Ron P. »

I should know how to correct this, as I think I've ran into this problem before. However I can't seem to remember what I done to fix it. So I would greatly appreciate some ideas on why and how to correct it.

The Problem
When applying any of the Global Effects to a Text Object it does not apply it to the text. Instead it is applied to a shape surrounding the text. There is no such shape. It appears as if the Text has been converted to a Vector object, which it has not. The screenshot shows this.
global plug-in fire.jpg
I've re-installed the program numerous times to no avail. I also have MS3D installed on my old WinXP machine, and do not have this problem on that machine. The problem is occurring on my laptop, running Windows Vista. My laptop is a Compaq C700...

Hi Ron

Nice to hear from you, hope you are keeping well...

I have tried using my XP PC and as you say it seems ok, when I can get on the laptop I will give it a go, that has W7 installed, maybe has similar effect as Vista.......

I assume the fix was a tweak using MS3D and not the laptop??

Hi Trevor,

Yes doing fine, and hope you are too!! Been keeping real busy working, away from home during the week, and only home for the weekends.

I would guess that the fix is either with MS3D, the OS, or maybe even my Graphics drivers.

Trevor, yes I can, however I've already determined it's not the file or program. I copied the file from my Vista machine to the WinXP. Opened it and it works as it should on WinXP. So I think it is some setting on my Laptop. I've been through all the Intel Media Graphics settings, checked the Direct X, ect., and still no glory.

Yep, I have tried running it in WInXP compatibility mode, nothing changed. I looked at the file you sent and it plays fine on my laptop. Still don't know why the program is behaving like it is. It must be something with my laptop, just not sure where else to look.

Hi RON.
I'm a Korean and I live in South Korea.
I'm not speak english very well so, I ask to be excused.
English translator was used.

In my opinion, I think you need to think of many situations. Solution is very annoying.
In your Laptop computer,

1. A new installation of Windows Vista does not solve the problem, install Windows XP.
2. Install Windows XP does not resolve the problem, the problem is not OS. Direct X will therefore not be an issue too.
3. If so, the problem is the graphics card. Graphics card driver version at least 1 year interval between the two drivers
that I see the version file to test.
4. Good Luck.

By the way, you said,
"I've already determined it's not the file or program"
"I looked at the file you sent and it plays fine on my laptop"

That mean, your OS or the Graphics Card or Dirct X be a no problem?
Others sent files to normal operation. But when you're working yourself to that problem, I do not quite understand.
In that case, both sides have got a problem it is normal.
Other features of your Easypalette window is normal? Seems to be a bug report.

Yes, I figured that reformatting and reinstalling Windows would cure it. My problem right now is I don't have the time. I also discovered something strange. Even though it does not show properly in the view window, It does render out correctly. So as I can find the time, I'll continue looking into this.

Thanks Pegacon for having a look at my problem.

I figured it out :D

I knew it was a problem with my laptop, specifically it had to be something wrong with my graphics settings/drivers. I had tried numerous times to update them, but kept getting an error, saying that my OS was not supported. :o Long story short, I finally found where I could get the software/drivers to update, and that fixed my problem.

Thanks Trevor and Pegacon for considering my problem!!!
