File gets truncated when DVD created

Post by rogerhar »

Hi

Using VideoStudio 9 I tried to make a DVD of a recorded HDTV program. The program, according to Nero Showtime, had a duration of 1 hour, 6 minutes 47 seconds.

To confirm the program was ok I played back the raw file and the program is complete, i.e. the end of the program was recorded and at the time shown above.

I then created a "DVD" (using the files approach, on my hard drive in order to not make frisbies) and played back the resulting rendered files.

The counter in the playing program (Nero Showtime) then ran smoothly until the time shown above was reached and the playback was abruptly terminated. This was at least five minutes before the end of the program.

I am using PAL, 15:9 aspect and MPEG sound format.

How do I get to recording for posterity the whole program?

Hi
Don’t really know where to start!

I think we need a little more info!

What are the properties of the original clip?

If they are standard compliant Dvd files then you should be able to burn directly a disc.

Insert the file into the timeline, right click and select properties.

What are they?

Did you need to re-render your clip prior to burning?

Hi Trevor

Thanks for the reply. In answer to your questions; the following are the results.

1. Raw video file was xxyy.mpg. When dropped into the Timeline its parameters were:-
MPEG-2
4,605,528 KB
duration 4007.54 seconds
Video type MEG-2
Total frames 200,377
Attributes: 24 bits, 720x576 16:9
Frame rate: 50 frames/sec.
Data rate: Variable bit rate (Max. 7650kbps).
AUDIO
Audio type MPEG Audio Layer 2 Files
Total samples 192,361,920 samples.
Attributes: 48000 Hz, 16 bit stereo.
Layer 2
Bit rate 224 kbps.

I then cleared out any files in VideoStudio9 and using the Capture function I put into the Library the DVD format files rendered from the raw video.
The rendered files parameters were:-
Number of audio streams 1
Number of subtitle streams 0
TV system: 625/50 PAL
Attribute 24 bits, 720x576, 16:9
Frame rate: 25 Frames/sec.
Data rate: Variable bit rate (max 6000kbps).
Total duration: 01:06:44:12

I then put the file into Timeline and its properties are:-
File format PAL DVD
File size 2,639,168 KB
Duration 4004.120 Seconds
Video MPEG-2 video, lower field first.
Total frames: 100,103 Frames.
Attributes: 24 bits, 720x576, 16:9
Frame rate: 25 Frames/sec.
Data rate: Variable bit rate (Max 6000kbps).
AUDIO
Audio type: Dolby, Digital Audio
Total samples: 192,197,760 samples.
Attributes: 48000Hz, 2/0 (L,R)
Layer: None
Bit rate: 256 kbps.

My PC is a P4, 3GHz with a 160GB hard-drive with nearly 100GB free.
I am using the 30 day trial of VideoStudio9, so don't know if that is slightly crippled or not being a trial version.

I am very keen to get the TV program recorded for posterity; it was the Eurovision 2005 Finals.

Regards
Trevor Andrew

Hi
When you placed the rendered file into the timeline was it complete.
Can you play this file to the end?

If yes

Start a new project
Place the file/clip into the timeline
Now remove the file/clip, this will set your project properties to match the clip properties.
You now have an empty project.
Share / Create Disc / Add Video

Add the rendered clip.

Create your menus and titles.

In the final burn window
De-select Burn to disc.
Select Create DVD Folders

Select Burn

Play the DVD TS folder
Does that work
