PsP x4 sp2 is not a big disappointment for me. It contains very important fixes of bugs which have prevented me from using the program at all until now:

I also dislike that if I double click on an image in the Manage pane the image opens in this stupid Quick Edit mode instead of the full Editor.

The most important thing for me is that the program does not change automatically in a funny way.
When I double click on an image in MANAGE mode, it pops up in FULL SCREEN view. Excuse the ignorance but where is this behavior set?

Another quirk is that sometimes when inadvertently double-clicking on an image title bar in EDIT mode, the images go into TABBED mode. Is that normal? It's a pain to go back with the mouse and roll the zoom up, and then back down to fix each one after they all go into CASCADE arrangement.

I once had windows XP take what seemed forever to start and then realised I had an external hard drive connected and once I disconnected that it started normally. THis did not happen with all hard drives and may have varied with the brand of hard drive and the amount of data on it. I did not bother to check any more , just made sure all drives were turned off for initial boot and then brought them on line.
I understood what you meant; but we should not have to disable the external drives for PSP X4 (or X3, for that matter) to start as fast as older versions. I can open any older version of PSP (X2 or below) without having this problem. And I have finally given up on trying to use the organizer like I did in previous versions. Corel has decided that they want it to work in a different manner than what users want. I can open a folder in Windows, use large icons or extra large icons and see the whole folder of images. And by removing all folders from the organizer and the navigation pane, X4 opens in seconds. And if I want to scroll through folders to decide which one I want to work in, I can always use X2.

I don't think we will ever be able to use a single version of Paint Shop Pro, because Corel constantly changes or breaks the old functions as they add new ones. The term "unused commands" still ticks me off.

Ahh good. So you have already established that without the organiser "X4 opens in seconds". So solution is to do away with the organiser. I have not bothered to use it unless trying to test for someone else's problem with their organiser.
I doubt that corel will ever be able to make a complete PSP as they have so many other programs to prepare , repair and update. If Microsoft with all their resources and programers have never been able to put out a bug free/ virus impervious version of windows then what hope has Corel got.

I use a free program Irfanview if I need to find images on my computer in different folders or Windows thumbnails if I already have the folder.
Windows thumbnails also allows drag and drop to the edit workspace which is essentially what we are after in using a Manage mode - ie find and then edit.

The more we keep asking for new functions for PSP, the more bloated , more buggy and slower it can get.

I never liked the organizer in PSP..... modeled after the organizer in the "other" big name in editing. So, I purchased a program which does (IMHO) a super job of organizing, tagging, keywording etc. Then I use PSP as a plug-in within the organization program and it opens very quickly.
Adverts for Corel products when you close PSP don't bother me.

I can still use the organizer in X2 and the program as well, but I paid good money for X3 and X4 and that is the reason I keep trying to use them. I have abandoned X3 and will probably uninstall it. X4 came out without the problems in X3 being corrected, and X5 is already in the works. Probably not much hope for X4 to work well for me, and very unlikely that I will ever buy another version of Paint Shop Pro.

Hi. I asked a question here http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=56&t=47241 if forum members thought X4 would be better than X3 when it comes to optimal performance on very fast hardware. I hadn't realized that somewhere on this board is this thread that highlights so many issues with X4 I'm bothered. It's not my intent to hijack this thread but I figured it's useful to get the insight of the majority of X4 users who made the switch from X3. I don't use PSP's Organizer (I have Faststone's Image Viewer that's a lot faster and efficient to handle thousands of images). I would like to keep X3 as much as possible but only worry that X3 may not run as fast on 64-bit Windows Home Premium environment as X4.

It did seem to fix the 72 dpi issue - it now shows my pics as 300 dpi - which is correct. Coincidence or fixed on purpose, I don't know.
