Imported MPEG4 files are blurry

Post by Lindam »

I am using Corel VS X5. I have created MPEG4 files using Adobe Captivate and imported them into Corel. When I preview them, if I select Clip, the video looks fine. But if I preview the Project, the video is blurred. I first thought it might be caused by Smart Proxy but after disabling that feature, the problem persisted. I tried publishing the project to see if the final version would be ok. Still no luck. I tried the online chat and they suggested updating my viewers. I did as instructed and restarted my PC. Still no luck. My imported MPEG4 file is 1024x767 HD. Any ideas?

My imported MPEG4 file is 1024x767 HD.
Any particular reason you created it with that frame size? It is totally unusual. VS will be trying to adjust it to fit one of the more normal sizes, and that is probably where the problem arises...

No particular reason. If you think that is the cause then I will try another size. Thanks for the suggestion.

I stretched the frame to fit my screen. I can rescale the frame size. What would you suggest?

Can you try changing the settings, you can go to SETTINGS > PREFERENCES > EDIT tab then disable the FIT TO SCREEN option.

Since you have not provided the complete specs of your computer, you can test if the problem happens when SMART PROXY is enable and when it's NOT ENABLED.

I tried unchecking Fit to Screen but it didn't resolve the problem. As for Smart Proxy, the problem occurs when it is both enabled and disabled. That was the first thing I tried when I discovered the problem. I am not sure if the frame size of my MPEG4 file that I am importing into Corel is the cause. I rescaled the Captivate tutorial to 1024x768 HD and re-imported it into Corel but it made no difference. The rest of the Corel video looks fine until the imported clip starts. Any other ideas?

I still think it *is* the original frame size. Can you set it for 1280 x 720 -- which is the first of the HD standard sizes? After that come 1440 x 1080 (anamorphic but works) and 1920 x 1080... As it is, depending on your output settings, VS will be trying to convert your 1024 x 768 video to one of these sizes -- most like 1920 x 1080. And the main way it does this is by simply inventing pixels by duplicating existing ones. Hence the fuzziness in your final project view or video.

Also, what is the frame rate of your Captivate video? Right click on a clip in VS's library or timeline and check Properties. Is it 29.97 (or 30) frames per second, or 60 fps? (Or even 25 or 50?) Or something else? Again, if it is something else, then VS will be adjusting the final frame rate to a standard one, and that will probably also contribute to the fuzziness.
