VS 15 Trial and creating video file in HDV format

Post by cantinoro »

I'm having a strange issue. I own VS 12, and when I work with HDV footage, I'm able to create an HDV video file either with MPEG optimizer or Same as first video clip. The project smart renders and I get HDV file. I've downloaded VS 15 trial as a test, as it has some additional features I'm interested in. However, with the VS 15 trial, following the same steps produces a file formatted as NTSC DVD 4:3 and no smart render. Am I missing something or is this a bug/limitation of the trial? Corel says the trial is fully functional. Corel chat hasn't been much help and I'm still waiting on a response from tech support. I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit i5 4 GB ram. I even tried installing the VS 15 trial on my old XP laptop and had the same issue. Any help or guidance is appreciated.

Hi

When I add a HD video to the timeline and select Share Create Video File - Mpeg Optiomiser I am given the same render properties for both versions X2 and X5, these seem to be the same as the First Video option.

Having said that VS 12 does not support all HD types and as such may not read the properties correctly.
I would have thought that X5 would be correct and produce a HD video, at least that’s what I see.

These are the properties of the test clip I used, the Optimiser used the same settings.
I realise you may be using NTSC..........

PAL (25 fps)
MPEG Transport-Stream Files
24 bits, 1920 x 1080, 25 fps
Upper Field First
(HDMV-PAL), 16:9
H.264 Video
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 16800 kbps)
Audio data rate: 384 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 3/2(L,C,R,SL,SR)

Can you provide details of your video file.............

-----------------------------------------
and yes X5 is fully functional, earlier versions were limited to the library content, X5 trial seems to be fully installed, and at 1.3 Gb it should be.
X5 is also very new and as such has no new update patches.

I work with HDV all the time, and have used it successfully from VS11+ onwards. But in truth I always ignore the Optomizer, regardless of the format I am using or seeking, and with HDV rarely if ever use 'Same As First Video' since my first clip is almost invariably a title I have made in another program and format... (usually uncompressed .avi). So I tend only to use Share > Create Video File > HDV (selecting the PAL option and HDV for HDV -- not that I understand what the difference in choice there is all about). I have never been disappointed with the outcome. Given that HDV by and large -- like DV/AVI -- has only one set of properties, there is not much that can go wrong anyway.
