A few X5 questions - need some help please

Post by DudeBoyz »

1 - I keep unchecking the "Relink checking" option under Preferences > General tab, but it never sticks. Is there a way to turn that off and have it stay off all of the time?

2 - Is there a way to have the program load without any entries in the Media Library area each time I start it? I want to start a new project fresh, without any video or audio entries listed in that Media window.

3 - Is there a way to identify in the Media Library window which clips listed there have been used in the project? If I have 17 small clips, it would be much easier if I could see at a glance which clips I have not yet included on the timeline.

Thanks much for any helpful tips or solutions. :)

!. Why on earth do you want "Relink checking" turned off permanently - it is the function which checks on opening a project that VideoStudio is in contact with all of the media files used in the project you are opening. Unless VideoStudio checks that it is linked to the files in the project it just will not be possible to continue editing. do you want to turn it off because a relink message pops up on your screen when ever you open a project and you then have to manually re-link ? - the answer to that problem is simple - stop changing or moving or altering in any way the media files outside of VideoStudio - ANY changes to the files out side of VS will cause the re-link error.

2. If you want the media library to be empty when you open VS - easy - just delete every thing in there - it's not compulsory to use a library at all. Deleting the thumbnails in there will NOT delete the files from your computer - those images in the library are just thumbnails holding a link to your images on your computer so you can delete them all and never put anything in there again just use the direct "insert to timeline" option to add files direct from your folders to the timeline. But why not do what many of us do and start a new library pane for each project - just use the library manager to add a new library for each project - giving it the name of your project so that you can find it again.

3. Regarding marking used clips - please read this very recent topic :- http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=46695

Answer for #1 is not helpful at all. I simply want to permanently have the relink unchecked. If you say that it is absolutely not possible, that is one thing, but trying to impose your idea of how things should be handled is quite another, and not appreciated.

Answers for #2 and #3 are indeed helpful and appreciated.

I can only tell it the way it is - sorry if you found that un-helpful - it's not my idea of the way to do things, it's the way VideoStudio works - but you still haven't explained why you want to permanently have it unchecked - what problems are you having that you think having it un-checked would solve ?

You may want to update the directX, if the forms are not responding. But I'm with BrianCee, since relinking is a feature that will make sure that all media files that you use on your project are properly link or connected.

2 - Is there a way to have the program load without any entries in the Media Library area each time I start it? I want to start a new project fresh, without any video or audio entries listed in that Media window.

rather than deleting them, I would suggest that you just move them to another folder, so that you can restore them back incase you want to use them.
