How do I move files on import?
I'm a long time Bibble user, and I just converted to AfterShot-Pro. Bibble has been an intigral part of my professional workflow. I'm afraid AfterShot changed a few things that actually make it less intuitive - at least to me.
In Bibble I used to use a Batch to recursively import files of my CF cards - MOVING them into my catalog and renaming them in one swift move.
The batch import no longer seems to work the same. - It moves and renames the files on my CF card.
How do I get a single hotkey to import and MOVE the files into my catalog as bibble used to?

Re: How do I move files on import?
The silly move into catalog has been dropped.
Catalogs are only by reference in AS.
Just copy to a decent tree structure on the hard drive in the download queue and let it import at the same time.

How is moving silly?
I used Bibble for years to import and organize my files in one swift move. So you're saying I have to open up a file manager, manually copy the files to my raid, then once that's complete return to AS and then import?

Directory structure has more layers than needed.sinisterbrain wrote:How is moving silly?
Using the files via other software might introduce files in the catalog that the cataloger gets funky about.
Any serious DAM I've ever touched worked with uses referenced files.

Use a download queue in AS to copy stuff to your HD with sensible paths and file names and switch on importing if you desire, for example:
Download destination fixed to /data
Image name: [jobname]-[YEAR]-[MONTH]-[DAY]-[3jobseq][<oext]
Subfolder [YEAR]/[MONTH]/[YEAR]-[MONTH]-[DAY]-[jobname]

Re: How do I move files on import?
Okay, this is totally confusing to me. I understand the code and the concatenations, but have NO idea how or where to apply this in ASP.afx wrote: Use a download queue in AS to copy stuff to your HD with sensible paths and file names and switch on importing if you desire, for example:

A search in the help/PDF for "download queue" yielded nothing useful.
Re: How do I move files on import?
I don't use the download but I presume it is being suggested that you edit the Download batch - the marked boxes in the attached image. You can find these in the, slightly confusing for this purpose, Batch Outputs by right clicking & choosing Settings.

Re: How do I move files on import?
Because the download batch queue is not a fixed part of AS, but one use of the batch queue system.Pixel Ninja wrote:A search in the help/PDF for "download queue" yielded nothing useful.
As Rick already pointed out, it is one of the predefined queues in the output tab.
Batch queues are not only used for output generation, but can also be set to copy and import files and are therefore usable for downloading.

Re: How do I move files on import?
What I found confusing about using the download queue was the fact that you had to start in the file system tab rather than in the Output tab. If I might say so, this is an area in which AFX could usefully improve on the BSG when the ASG comes out.
To summarise, you can make the changes to the Download batch by bringing up the settings page. Choose the Output tab in the left hand window. Look for D in the "Batch Output" sub-window. Double click. You now see the pane which Rick included in his post. Put the settings in the boxes he points at. OK.
Now click the "File System" tab in the left window, Expand the tab until you see your photo card, Now right click the volume. The third item on the context menu is "Send to batch (including subfolders)". When you put the mouse on this item, you will see another menu appear - the list of the batches. This is where you can choose the Download batch. And Bob's your uncle!

Me thinks this is clearly explained in BSG already.Dutchmm wrote:What I found confusing about using the download queue was the fact that you had to start in the file system tab rather than in the Output tab. Where exactly do you see a need for change?

To answer your question:
Mike
- 1, Download queues have only one index entry, page 196 IIRC, IMHO, if this subject deserves only one index entry, it should point at page 110
2. The text on page 196 doesn't point to the text on page 110 (to be fair, given the subject matter, you wouldn't expect it to, except for it being the only indexed entry)
3. Text searches for "download queue" throw up several false positives before you get to page 110
4. Even then, it is only the 4th paragraph in 5.7.1 that mentions the need to approach the queue from the file panel's context menu
5. I felt this was a subject that could have benefited from some illustration

Re: How do I move files on import?
Thanks for the detailed feedback!
On page 110 there is only a highlevel description of downloads that then points to page 133, so I think the index entry for 110 would not help that much. After all the stuff in chapter 5.7 is just a quick wrap up and the meat is on page 137.

Describing how to access the queue without first giving the information on how to set it up, will lead to people downloading with the shipped defaults which I think is not good practice.
Actually, it is two entries, one for the file (196) and one for the batch to page 133, where the concept is explained together with a sample queue definition.Dutchmm wrote:1, Download queues have only one index entry, page 196 IIRC, IMHO, if this subject deserves only one index entry, it should point at page 110

Yup, that is just an explanation of default files, but, think you have a point here, I'll update the whole file reference chapter with pointers to where the file use described that will make this chapter more useful. In case of the download queue it would point to page 137 then of course.2. Yes, otherwise I could not reference download queues at all3. Text searches for "download queue" throw up several false positives before you get to page 110
Yes of course. First you set up the queue and then you use it...4. Even then, it is only the 4th paragraph in 5.7.1 that mentions the need to approach the queue from the file panel's context menu

Really?
I thought it way to trivial to even think about an illustration. What would you have there?
FWIW, I thought a worked example of copysets would have been handy as well.Hmm, if I do a screen shot, it would be basically the same as selective copy (which I referenced), so my thinking was that this is redundant, therefore I just listed the items that I think are useful for copy sets. ASG has a bullet list now that reads a bit easer than the list in the text....
thx
