VERY POOR RENDERING in VS x4 PRO - HELP!

Post by MysticNitekatt »

I have used VS11 for years with no problems with the quality of rendering of files and projects so I was VERY surprised and disappointed in the Poor quality of the rendering no matter what I try.

I regularly import files directly from DVD-R finalized with no problems - usual recored at either SP or XP mode - and the files being imported into VS x4 Pro check out fine - no issues with quality,sound,image,etc. Same as the originals.

However, once I render them - everything goes worse.

I make sure that the field is the same as the original,the FPS stay the same,and keep the files in 4:3 - But regardless of using original bit rate or changing the bit rate (Higher or Lower) as an Mpeg2 it comes out "Fuzzy"/"Dupey"/"Digital Artifacty" for a lack of a better word. As if something isn't being sampled or encoded properly when rendered. It's like a loss in quality that shouldn't be occurring when rendered,especially when it's the same bit-rate as the original. The complete files are showing the right properties but are not right.

I have both patches installed as well.

I've viewed these files with a couple of different media players and they look the same, and even on another computer. But Just WHAT is causing these problems.

I Love the VS products but this is really making me unhappy! :cry:

(Another situation happens when trying to make an AVI file where it doesn't convert properly and it has that "Venetian blinds" effect but this may be separate from the other problem)

Hi MysticNitekatt

I understand that you say the properties are the same but can you give the details of the video file.
With the video file in the timeline, right click and select properties, what are they.?
Using Alt+Prt-Sc you can copy the window details to the clipboard, use an image editor to create a Jpeg, attach image to your post.

Assuming you have not done any editing, what options do you choose to render the video.
Share Create Video File---????
if you have edited the video, what have you done?..

There is the option to use Same as First Clip, does that produce bad video

I've tried various files - All the original files are mpeg format, NTSC 720x480 various length,various bitrates from DVD-R outputed as mpeg files.

Regardless of how the files are rendered - Same as First Clip,Same as Project Settings,Custom, Increased bitrate, lower bitrate's the same poor quality. No editing, slight editing single file,combined files (no f/x,transitions,etc), no matter how - it's all the same!

Simply put - it's not doing what it should. After several years of VideoStudio 11 and VideoStudio 7 before it, I know how to use it,and when something isn't right.

YOu may know what to do, but in order for us to give you a hand in finding out what the problem is, we really need the answers to our questions, you are sat in front of the pc doing what you normally do, with files you know, we are maybe 1,000's of miles away with no idea of any of that. :)

As a sample of the type of files i'm using - here's the data:

This one is the average size and type:

File Name: D:\RFYL-36 -.mpg
File Format : NTSC DVD
File Size 1,570,374 KB
Duration : 27587.691 seconds

Video type: MPEG-2 Video,Upper Field First
Total Frames: 82,648 frame(s)
Attributes: 24 bits,720x480, 4:3
Frame rate: 29.970 frames/Sec
Data Rate: Variable bit rate (Max. 9558 kbs)

Audio Type: Dolby Digital Audio
Total Samples 132,369,169 Samples
Attributes: 4800 HZ
Later: None
Bit rate: 256 kbs

This one is a sample of a larger file:

File Name: D:\RFYL - Raw.mpg
File Format : NTSC DVD
File Size 2,892,512 KB
Duration : 2758.492 seconds

Video type: MPEG-2 Video,Upper Field Firs
Total Frames: 82,672 frame(s)
Attributes: 24 bits,720x480, 4:3
Frame rate: 29.970 frames/Sec
Data Rate: 8218 kbps

Audio Type: Dolby Digital Audio
Total Samples 132,407,608 Samples
Attributes: 4800 HZ
Later: None
Bit rate: 256 kbs

As mentioned in my last post, the problem is happening regardless of a file's original properties,what I do to it, or how I output it.

Could there be a video codec (although I have installed all the latest codecs),file or driver missing on my computer? Perhaps something isn't communicating with something else? I just can't figure out what is causing this.

Hi

What do you mean by............ "although I have installed all the latest codecs"................

We do not recommend installing additional codecs, the codecs provided by the program should be good enough. By all means install Div X xvid Real Player, Flash etc ...........

Installing additional codec's or codec packs could be the problem.

I did have ffdshow installed for test purposes but found that interfered with other video settings.

The codecs provided with the software should be sufficient without additional packs.

The mpeg2 codec is probability the MainConcept Mpeg VideoDecoder, installing a pack may cause the program to use the wrong one. I don’t pretend to know how these codecs are stored on the pc, but imagine they are in some form of list, the top one taking preference.

I was referring to the proper codecs that come with it. Everything is up to date. Before installing x4 I had totally reinstalled windows 7 as well as the drivers from the dell reinstilation disks. There were no other added programs other than what is the basic window 7 (No Movie Maker) nor is it hooked up to the internet (I use this computer for editing only) - it's a pure and virginal as it could be! No Roxio,No Windows Movie Maker,No Media player other than Windows.

I actually reinstalled my VideoStudio 11 (with the two patches for that version) and the problem is also happening with that. (NEVER had an issue with it running in compatible mode XP SP2) I unistaled x4 and the problem is still showing up on 11. Made sure the registries were clean as well.

I am wondering if something,someplace is missing or not turned on/off that would affect both programs.

Hi

I suggest you do a clean install of all VS programs..............

When we uninstall Video Studio not all files are removed, especially with the earlier versions.
A Clean Install was a process to remove these files, literally purging your pc of VS files.
So a re-install would use the existing files.

Some Common files are located here,
For XP.
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ulead Systems
I assume a similar place for W7

Corel do provide some details of manually un installing Video Studio. Not sure if the details for VS 11 are available any more. I searched the Knowledge base and found this info:-

00013519 - How to remove Temp files

000005468-Uninstalling VideoStudio Pro X4

I will do another search to see if i can find VS 11 details, the nearest Ulead program i have is VS10.

Hi

This is the only info I have regarding Video Studio 10 re-install.
I assume the file locations will be similar to VS 11 so gives you somewhere to look.
the register keys will of course be different, i doubt if you would have to go there anyway.

---------------------------

reinstalled VideoStudio 10
1. Launch Windows Explorer and go to "Tools > Folder Options > View" to check "show hidden files and folders";
2. Purge/delete all the files in these folders: "C:\Windows\Temp" "C:\Documents and Settings\[User Name]\Local Settings\Temp" (for WinXP);
3. It is safe to delete all contents of these folders. However, leave any files you can?t delete for now;
4. Delete these folders/directories: "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ulead Systems" "C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio 10.0" "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio\10.0" "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SmartSound Software Inc" (for full versions);
5. Go to "C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information";
6. Delete the folder "{E188D820-1218-4E28-8BCA-91134C3664C2}";
7. Go to Start-->Run;
8. Type "regedit" then "OK";
9. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Uninstall;
10. Locate and delete the identity enclosed in curly brackets that corresponds to Ulead VideoStudio 10: "{E188D820-1218-4E28-8BCA-91134C3664C2}";
11. Go to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio";
12. Delete the folder "10.0";
13. Go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio";
14. Delete the folder "10.0";
15. Close Regedit and restart Windows;
16. Reinstall Ulead VideoStudio 10.
Note: You need to have "Administrator" privileges on your computer. "Limited" or "Guest" accounts won't let Ulead software install or run properly on your computer.

Got Dell involved - did a clean reinstall of windows and the drivers with no problem - it's as good (or better) then when it left Dell last year (minus the preloaded software, but flash is installed.)

AND THE ISSUES WITH x4 are STILL HAPPENING!

The latest from them is "we will research it" after 6 hours on the phone with them troubleshooting windows and driver issues and then new install issues!

It is installed with the latest patch.

This SHOULD NOT be happening.

Any ideas what the issue could be?

There's not only the rendering issues, but the playback in the preview screen is artifacty and edgy - when the original files are fine! So it's two issues. The preview/viewscreen and the rendering. Are both connected?

Unless there are some typos there seems to be some inconsistencies between the 2 files for which you listed the specs. The 1st file (RFYL-36 -.mpg) is 10 times as long (in time) as the 2nd file (RFYL - Raw.mpg) but the 2nd one is almost twice as big and has almost the same number of frames. Something is not quite right.

Yeh, that's a typo.
