PSP X4 Saving File In Other Than Original Download File
When I bring up n image file from a folder and after I work on it I would like to save in another folder other than from the original download file which is the only choice I seem to get. Is there way to designate a "default" folder for saving other than having to continually search for the folder I wish to save to?

Yes and no.
PSP does not have a default option for this, no. But I can think of three ways around it. There are probably better options but I don't know what they are.
1) Using the Export option rather than the Save option. This limits you to JPG, PNG, and GIF file formats. And opens up a wizard before the save dialog. But usually this will remember a different save location than the currently opened image. SO as long as you never change folders using the Export option it'll be like having a default folder.
2) Use the "Save as copy" command. This opens the save dialog right away and also remembers the last folder you saved to and uses that.
3) Use a script to replace the "SaveAs" option. The script is relatively simple, for the most part should only need to use the "SaveAs" command set to run interactively. This will allow you to set a default folder inside the actual script, in case you decide to change it later, and save to any format using the regular Save As dialog.
If you wish to avoid the "SaveAs" dialog and just have all open images auto-save to the default folder location you can also set the command to run "silently" which does not bring up the dialog and automatically saves the file using the last settings into the folder you defined.
The first two are the easiest, the third is the most customizable.

Another option is to add folders to your "List of favorite paths" in the Save As dialog box. Click the little folder icon that has a drop-down arrow on it to add new folders to the list. There must be at least one image in the folder before you can add it as a favorite. This is a quick way to access folders that you use often.

What I did was actually pretty simple. Because of the idea I got on the post mentioning "Save Copy As" I just went to "View" then "Customize" then the "Commands" tab and saw the "Save Copy As" icon and then simply clicked on it and dragged it to the Standard toolbar at the top of the screen. Then all I have to do is click on it. Bingo!

I used to love this feature, but X4 can't remember these settings for very long. I have complained bitterly about its loss and even put in a support ticket about it, with little success. Sometimes they stay until you reboot the computer, sometimes they disappear without ever closing the program, sometimes they even last through a few reboots; but sooner or later those saved folders disappear. Tech support promised to send my comments to the design team and closed my ticket, and I noticed this issue was not corrected in SP2.LindaSue wrote:Another option is to add folders to your "List of favorite paths" in the Save As dialog box. That's a shame. I don't think that I tried that feature when I ran the trial version of X4.ADonahoo wrote:I used to love this feature, but X4 can't remember these settings for very long.
