VS 4 setting transparency levles

Post by sswiz »

Hi
May be a silly question from a novice. How can I set or continuously change transparency level of a video clip in a time line. Say, for instance, I want to overlay one video on to another and at certain points in the time line, one should appear, slowly fade out and the other should appear after some time.
In some earlier versions of video editors, this could be easily done using a control line like the audio level control line with control points inserted wherever necessary, as we do in most video editors.
Is there a similar function in VS 4 or what is the work around to achieve the same.
I don't want to set the transparency level of the whole clip to a certain percentage, but needs to change the transparency level gradually up and down, in the time line.

thanks in advance

Welcome to the forums

There are quite a few options to achieve this..........

With the video selected in the Overlay track select the Attributes tab
Use the Styles and Duration, the fade ramps will fade in and out. They default to 33% of the duration.
The pause durations being adjusted using the bar under the preview screen.

Tip, if you have a long clip, cut the clip at 9 seconds, apply the fade will default to 3 seconds.

Another option is to use the Picture in Picture effects filter, locate the filter from the FX library.
A bit of a learning curve but can be very effective.
