I have an Asus Radeon 9600XT with VIVO (SV and Composite in and out). I had first downloaded DVD MovieFactory 4 TBYB and captured video just fine. After using that I tried out VS9 and bought it a few hours later. After about a week of capturing video from my card and my webcam just fine I removed my webcam from my computer and now whenever I go back into capture video I get two errors
The instruction at 0x1b188259 referenced memory at 0x1b188259 the memory could not be "read"
The instruction at "0x6c3b5115" referenced memory at "0x00000004". The memory could not be "read"
I have tried connecting my webcam again, re-installing it, and re-installing the drivers for my video card but no matter what I do it crashes whenever I try to do video capture or even get into the settings for the capture. My trial for DVD MovieFactory just ran out yesterday and it had been working perfectly with both webcam and video card the whole time. I dont want to have to buy that just to get my videos into VS9. Seems kinda backwards.
VS9 crashes on capture

Wish I could help, But I'm just going to gripe. SAME thing is happening to me. I can get capture to work everyonce in a while, but the majority of the time it just crashes...Tried phone support and got basically.."your drivers must not be supported..use another program to capture...". What makes me mad is it worked fine for a while. Then stopped.. Now it work very occasionally....very frustrating..

yeah, it worked fine for me during the trial and a bit after paying for it but now I cant get it to work at all. I got the same thing from tech support. I'm a software developer for my profession. I can see the error is a bad pointer to a memory location that's not being caught. DVD moviefactory worked the whole time the trial lasted.
I can capture via composite with another program but VS and DVDMF both worked great with my svideo. I've got all the latest drivers and have reinstalled everything a few times over to try and get this to work. I'm rather annoyed by this. I had been recommending VS9 to my friends but after this I'm not.

Here are some things I do that will get it to capture. Odd as it seems.. it works a lot of the time.. (not all of the time)
In the edit tab, drag a clip to the time line. (You can delete it later.) Next go to the capture tab and choose import DVD. (Let it just show what is on the dvd, you don't need to import--I have a movies on my hard drive so it is pretty quick) close, then click capture. This works most of the time on my system. I have no idea why. It is a slight PAIN, but at least it will capture.
If needed. Here is a great free capture program. http://www.virtualdub.org
But my thought is if you paid for a product it ought to work...

You can enable "Show Hidden Folders" to get to the configuration files.
VS uses the configuration .ini files
The capture plugins are defined in the .ini files
Configuration files are under "All Users -> Application data etc etc etc"
The last used configuration files are under "<user_name -> Application data etc etc"
You may need to change or delete the user_name -> application data ->
configuration files ( .ini capture definitions) that were defined.
There are also settings retained in the registry.
